Prs4, And Prs2 Wiring Chart For The Rd Beta I
I still can't get my car to start or even make noise. I'm lost. I'll keep trying different things. Does anybody have one of these installed on an RD1 or RD2 the GK's seem to be having no problems.

I'm having the same problem. I tried it real quick last night. I'm pretty sure the coils are not firing. The rep I emailed said that there ARE ignitors in the unit, but I'm thinking he's wrong cause my coils were not firing.
However, everything else worked. I was getting fuel and reading the o2, crank, etc.
I'm gonna have to research this more. I think worst case is that we need to use a DIS 2 to fire them. I'm gonna look for a cheaper option though.

Hey,
Yea I determined that the spark plugs wern't firing but im trying every option that I can think of. I only have five weeks till my car has to be moved. I'm also getting a wierd engine temp on my PRS readings. It says like 104 degrees even though the car hasn't been running in days. Hey Jon if you get your car started of any further than I did send me an email if you could.

Hi...
ok.. welcome to my world people....
I got the same issues... but I get firing on the coils.... but in a bad bad way... cilinder 1 and 4 throw sparks when crancking... as soon as I let the car key to the on possition, the cilinder 1 and 3 stop making sparks and I saw 1 little spark on cilinder 2 and 4...
I think that the problem is the timing / ignition....
Three persons with skills tried in my country... so I recommend that if you got a dealer near to you, go an ask him...
On perfect power website just offer some helps... but nothing big..

I really hope we can come up with something for thsi because after all the problems im thinking about going with the plug and play option we are going to have from korea. i would much rather use the standalone, i just hope it isnt to big of a headache. hopefully we can figure this out, and soon
I had the PRS-8 installed on my tib and had the same problem with the ignition, the prs does have ignitors built in but they are not strong enough to fire our factory coils, I tried it with my MSD DIS-2 and the car started but it would break up after 4,000 rpm, what I had to do was run four seperate MSD Blaster coils one on each seperate ignition output and it worked great after that. This may not be possible with the PRS-4 since it won't have enough ignition outputs to run four seperate coils but that was the only way it would work for me. You should be able to run an external ignitor between the PRS and coils but I never tried it, I think the eclipse should have an external ignitor that would work.
By looking at the wiring on the first page it seems the PRS-8 and -4 are totally differant , I was able to run both the TPS and MAP sensors and even the MAF if I wanted to, I was also able to input why wideband o2 to it for easy tuning.

You're right, the PRS isnt strong enough to fire the coils. I found that out when I tried cranking it.
You can buy external ignitors (used eclipse, MSD, Haltech, etc), or use RX7 coil packs with built in ignitors. Either option is cheap.
DMDicks is running his MSD DIS 2 with his setup and it works though. So I don't know what's going on there in his situation.
I'm probably gonna go with the used external ignitor option by finding some from an RX7 or Eclipse.
Supposedly the RX7 has better coils anyways, so I might go that way.
Otherwise, the car should fire right up, since it seemed as though everything else was working fine.

Ok now I'm wondering. I don't know crap about ignitors but I'm looking at these on ebay,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...mMakeTrack=true
but I'm wondering how to wire this in. Is it just a series connection betweent the PRS4 and the harness or does it need to go in the engine bay after the harness right before the coils?

Ok I see alot of people are having issues, well since I'm the only RD/J2 Chassis with this running I made up a new diagram for everyone to get your cars running.
The Reason that Dave's wiring diagram will not work with our cars and the reason your not getting a strong enough signal to fire the coils id because the GK has a Hall Effect pickup for the crank, ours is a Magnectic so it needs to be wired differently. I have my car running without the MSD so I know it works, so there is no need to go and buy extra stuff you do not need.
Here is the diagram (I left it big so that the writing can be read):

I will also post a basemap with the needed global settings that need to be changed aswell. If you have any questions please ask so I can get you up and running.
Also on the Diagram you must wire it with new Wires running to power the injectors, coils and Fuel Pump, this will save you alot of headache and will save time. And yes you will need to Purchase 3 30amp relays, I got mine from Radioshack and they are Cheap.
