I was told $40 to install a header by a very respectable shop. That seems very worth the cost, and I can blame them when the gasket leaks. From what I hear around town, pretty much everyone has trouble with leaking headers eventually.

And no, the people talking about leaking didn't have them done at this shop.

$40 is worth it if you have rusty stock bolts. Make sure you go with stainless bolts when you put in the new header, and throw some copper anti-seize on 'em. There must be something wrong in your town if everyone has problems with leaking headers eventually. I've run aftermarket headers on several cars for years and never had a single problem, even with gaskets. It's the oem stuff that starts to leak. And it's not like changing a bad gasket is difficult.

Read the topic... if you replace the 2nd cat your car will throw a CEL and not run properly.

I cut the brace on the engine with a dremmel tool and 2 cutoff wheels, those things always break.

The stuff on the oil pan is just some dust that was kicked up from the cutting.
