well the other day i was tryin to reset my computer so i got out the 12mm ratchet and did the routine
undo the battery and let it set for a few seconds with a load on it
then i retighted the terminal and found out that i maxed out the terminal no matter how tight i tightened it i could still pull it off with my hand
so i connected it and wiggled the terminal until my car finally started
and in the morning i went to turn on the car and *click* the car wont start
i look at the terminal and it popped off from the vibrations so i thought to myself "i need a better, easier way to reset the computer"
i have heard pulling the ecu fuse works sometimes
and i almost bought a battery switch to turn it off and on
but then i saw something when i was on my friends boat- marine battery terminals and this is what i did:

that is what my battery looked like notice the negative clamped down all the way
this is what you will need to buy

a six pack of your favorite beer, some marine terminals (coated in epoxy they last longer) some battery protectors, and some connectors for the wire (the ones i had in the pic didnt work so i went with some copper ones you can also find some gold ones at a audio store for you blingers)
and these are the tools you will need

a wire brush, some water, a rag(holey socks work), pliers, a 12mm socket, and a 11mm socket (sockets depend on the size bolt on the terminals)
after removing the terminals this is what i saw

can you say corrosion? corrosion is bad it can leave you stranded, under power a amp, dim headlights, etc
so poor a little water on the battery (dont worry it wont shock the hell out of you) then clean with the brush, afterwards use the rag to clean off the top of the battery- mine looked like this after

now put the protectors onto the battery then install terminals and tighten them with the 12mm socket after that clamp the connectors onto the wire (if your still using the stockers you will need to cut off the terminals and install the connectors) the wire for the starter already has a eyehole connector but it is too small to install onto the marine terminal so you might have to drill the hole bigger(what i did) or find another way to install it then install them all onto the marine terminals like so

when your all done it will look like this

now when i need to reset the comp i dont need ANY tools i just have to unscrew the wingnut and remove the wire
now i would like some rdbucks cuz i am proud of this lol
EDIT:
wanted to include a pic of my pile

THIS IS HOW A DIY SHOULD BE! smile.gif awesome job.
You should also say to put a shitload of white grease on the terminals/posts (after you're done cleaning it, baking soda in the water helps too) and it will never corrode again laugh.gif
DITTO on the 'corrosion will leave you stranded' comment..happened to me. I also always have problems taking the battery off, won't tighten anymore and still slips right off.
Great DIY, but I don't like how that ground looks..the wires are too exposed.
It does look nice though.

yeah i gotta get some heatshrink for the ground wires
if you look at the positive there is some but i ran out lol
oh and the epoxy coated kind resist corrosion really good so no need for white grease just keep a eye on them and clean em once and a while

i wish i still had my pile 02.gif
they sell a spray that protects agianst corrosion, my opinion it works really well.

Ever heard of an Emergency Battery Disconnect Switch? They are required sometimes in racing so I figured I might need one eventually. I got mine for $12 shipped, looks like the Hella one. Lots of manufacturers make them. After putting my battery in the trunk, I put this inline with the negative wire. It came with a connection to the battery terminal and the existing wire. Took 2 minutes to hook up. With a twist of the wrist, you can shut off your battery from inside the car. Just mount the switch anywhere you want. fing02.gif
It looks ugly, but like I said, if you race, you might need one. LOL, sorry Faith, but flicking your wrist to turn this is the "faster" way to disconnect the power. nana.gif
You can now run the wires cleanly to the terminals and not have the wingnuts, or have to unbolt anything. It was actually one of the best mods I did because it was so easy to use all the time.

Sounds like you needed a terminal upgrade anyway, so good job!
But for the record, pulling up the big yellow battery tab/fuse in the underhood fuse box will reset the ECU. I can't think of any way it could possibly be easier. wink1.gif

I've tried that several times, never worked for me.

I was looking for one and some guy said he had a few and would give it to me for $12 shipped. It had about 2' of (2 gauge I think) wire that attached to the battery post, while the stock wire connected to the switch. The red key comes out, so if i wanted, I could remove it to keep the car from starting.
Like I said, looks just like the Hella one from Summit Racing.
