so should we take this out of the DIY section now DTN?

i mean, you are kinda telling people not to get them. makes sense to me to have a diy in here that isn't a good part if you know what i mean.

Yes, I think the pivot point is too low to be a good part. I also think since there are better parts out there, we should endorse them.

It is still a DIY, but it sucks to use these. Remove it from Aproved DIY list.

I have no problems with the lifters. Nothing is breaking and it works like a charm.

how about we do this:

when you get the redline kit, take pics to replace the one for the sokie-tech pics and we'll change the pics plus add the ones we need for the place to rivet the one end piece. that way, you don't have to retype everything , just go in and redo small bit and pieces, change images, or I guess have me do it since i can still edit the first post.

then after we get all the stuff fixed I can go in and make the posts that are remarks to the sokie-tech style lifters invisible.

good idea?

I can edit my first post. Personally, I take alot of pride in my DIY guides. I'd leave this one because basically I had to translate the japerish into a legable frm. The redline kit has it's own DIY and it's well done. I'd just say remove this DIY from the aproved DIY listings and add the Redline PDF file.

The redline install has nothing to do with the sokie tech install. It's much more involved, mounts in different places and uses different parts.

Seriously, it started to tear BOTH of the bolts out of my hood after about 30 open/close cycles, 8 hours of open, and 30 minutes of 1/2 way open. The redline kit is like ~25 something inches away, more then middle of hood weight distribution. This kit is sub-par. It's designed wrong because it's stablization point is like 8 inches from the fulcrum of the hinge. basically, the lifter works as a pivot point and the hood's weight is beared completely by the rear bolt on the hood. It is not designed for the rigors of DTN's hood usage and I don't like it.

Bottom line: this kit is a novelty bolt-on.

Whit my CF hood the sockie tech hood lifter is just great.
Maybe whit regular hood it's to heavy but with CF it's nice and I personaly think it look better then a long shock..

ok guys, enough OT and slamming each other, getting out of hand here a bit.

I agree with DTN about the point of the fulcrum being too close to the pivot point, i've never liked it and i'm pretty sure i posted that somewheres.

the only thing i don't like about the redline kit is the rivet part, i don't care what anyone says, rivets are not good but i like the fact that the redline holds the hood furthur up towards the front of the hood. true, it's not out of the way compared to the sokie's, but it would be nice to find a "cool medium" between the two or somehow retrofit one or the other to suit everyones needs.

It might be possible, but you'd have to extend the mounting bracket so that the hinge folded the other way. The shock would need to be longer and the bracket would be at risk of bending away from the hood. There's only 2 bolts on the hood. Another option would be to weld the bracket onto the hood.

There's nothing wrong with rivits. These don't use the 1/4" rivits, they are the 3/8" beefy rivits. The only differences between a rivit and a bolt are you can put a rivit anywhere because you have to drill a hole, and they don't unscrew once you put them in, you redrill them out. Most other aftermarket installs come with rivits.
