2 Red Zman: Yes I do have a strutbar and there is no problem with the installation over the strubar's handle. I just left the strutbar and put the lifter's handle on top of it, and still no problem with the hood.

Quick off topic question though, my quote button has dissapeared and I can't find were to turn it on again so I have to quote everything by hand. Any idea anyone where to turn on this feature again?

What skin are you using? Bring that up in another thread.

Something HAS to be installed wrong on DTN's.

Why?

1. No one else has had this problem.
2. If he can collapse these by HAND when uninstalled, they do NOT have enough pressure to bow a steel hood.
3. The other kits other companies sell that mount to the hood directly don't bow the hood either.

I really can't make out what is what in that bowed picture you put up. I'd look at the adjustable mount, maybe put it under the strut bar mount, but something is wrong for sure.

nice DIY. kinda self explanatory, but we have some members on here that don't even know where an oil filter is located, so glad ya did it.

the bowing thing is kinda gay. never woulda thought sokie stuff would do that.

i do know FOR A FACT, that the redline hood lifts don't bow on either the stock hood OR a CF hood. just FYI.

and you CAN'T install the sokies wrong.. they bolt up to existing spots, so there is no guessing to this at all, basic plug and play. BUT, you could try to install the brackets UNDER the strut bar bracket, which would decrease the angle/length of the closed position probably enough to take away that 'bow' in the picture.

if they work on a stock hood, they will work on a CF hood. these things don't fly up like you think they would. they slow down at the top, so its not gonna rip anything off.

^^ Yeah. I write DIYs sometimes just because. I would have thought the installation would be harder. It was actually quite easy. I've found that DIYs are a great way to learn more about a product. Ie. how to install, how to improve... So I try to do DIYs on everything I install.

I've had these off about 3-4 times so far attempting to troubleshoot the problem. I have even adjusted the hood mounts themselves. I have gotten nowhere.

I don't believe the hood struts themselves are bowing the hood. I think it has something to do with the mounting device. The mounting device was designed for a 96-99 tiburon. The bump in the center of the hinge under the hood strut hardware is causing it to not seat correctly. I need to know if RD1s have this bump or not. It would solve the mystery of the bowed hood if RD1s have flat mounting. If the RD1 has flat mounts then the solution would be to perform a percussive operation against the offending bump.

Self explanatory or not, DTN is right. I've done dozens of DIY's of every day mantenance items because there are folks out there scared of wrenches and screwdrivers. Show them how easy it actually is to do something, some of them will. Hell, it's the reason I started my DIY's back on HA.com way back when, all the DIY's were text posts with lots of holes in them. I started a standard format, with lots of pictures, and lots of helpful stuff.

DTN is doing good, here at least.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>i do know FOR A FACT, that the redline hood lifts don't bow on either the stock hood OR a CF hood. just FYI.</div>

Yeah, but unfortunately, most folks here, just like me, aren't buying a rivet gun, or drilling holes into their CF hoods.

Not to mention, this kit is cheaper.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>and you CAN'T install the sokies wrong.. they bolt up to existing spots, so there is no guessing to this at all, basic plug and play. Sure you can. You could put the brackets on the wrong sides, the lower ones at least. And those are adjustable. I'm SURE they were not designed to be installed with a strut bar, and some strut bars, such as mine, have VERY thick mounts.

See that pic? Adjustable, and on top of the strut bar bracket. I'd try it the other way, the pressure there could be doing it just because of the height of the bracket.

I've been thinking the same thing. If it's attached to the hinge, it shouldn't matter. I'd still like to see them on a CF hood with some time on them before I try them out though.

DTN, someone, I think Blizaga, put up pics of the RD1 hinges some time ago in the old thread, it should show you if it's got the bump or not.

Bottom of this page.

In this one...

His lower mounts are installed all the way in.

Col also has them, with no reported problems.

I'd check with these guys.

If it IS a problem, a simple hinge swap would work.

the reason the hood droops is not from the kit but form the inner structure of the hood itself. the pivot point is too low on the hood which in turn makes the rest of that 40 to 50lb. hood sag, simple geometry.

It's sagging upwards?

Yeah, that makes no sence.

It doesn't "Sag" upwards with the OEM prop rod in the down position...

LOL

Im not worried about the hood flying up. Its more the force needed to close them. CF Hoods are flexible and the clear coat does crack. I would also have to see someone have it for a while and then do it. I know whoever has your old cf hood, Nate is using the redline one. Im also not doing the rivet thing though.

Prepare for the onslaught of "why don't you just use rivet" posts.
