Most of us have done this, quite a few of us as our first mod. If you have a CAI, you have definately done this.
Well, here's a quick writeup on this easy, and FREE mod. Your car will sound nicer, will run cooler, have quicker throttle responce, and you will gain a bit of lost power back.
If you've not done any mods, do this first.
And NO, this will not harm your car or mess up your warranty in any way.
Tools
1. 10MM Socket, Ratchet, Extension
2. Wire cutter (For cable ties)
3. Clean towel/rag

Okay, very simple folks, start out by opening your air cleaner box and removing your filter. Put it in a clean place.
Then, remove the plastic pipe on the back of the air filter box, and pop the Air Temp Sensor out of the little hole. Put it on top of the spark Plug Cover for now.
Remove the (I think) 3 bolts in the bottom of the air cleaner box and put that aside.
Now, cut the cable ties that hold the battery cables to the air duct bracket.
Remove all of the bolts that hold the Air Duct in place, and remove the air duct.
Then, under the battery tray, remove the 2 bolts holding the resonator in place. Push the resonator out under the car (Easier than trying to take it out the top) and put it to the side.
Using the clean towel, clean the inside of the Air Cleaner housing really well, and reinstall the bottom plate.
Reinstall your filter, the air cleaner top, the rear hose going to the MAFS, and the Air Temp Sensor.
You are done!
If you are wanting even MORE power back, use the K&N drop in filter model # 33-2753.
EDIT: Picture in gallery was approved, added picture.

Does it really make a difference to remove the resonator? Also, the intake for the stock system is BEHIND The rubber weatherstipping for the front of the hood... not sure if that would hurt anything.

If it didn't make a difference man, we wouldn't do it.
Decent difference, you will notice it, for sure. It's the mod that got me started, I know that much. Now I'm a full time whore. wink.gif
I don't know what you are asking about with the weatherstripping, just do the mod and see what ya thing mang!

I already have a CAI... What I am saying.. on my 99, the intake on the stock airbox stopped just short of the rubber weatherstrip that keeps water from running in over the engine from the front of the car. It is on the hood and meets the radiator support to form a seal.. the "Scoop" on the intake sits BEHIND it.. and looks to be blocked from cool air because of it.

QUOTE (x7xstring)

hey thanks alot, .. i think i'll do this (it will be my first mod!)
is this going to make my car sound louder??, . or with more balls? , hehe

Do it man, it's many of our first mods. That and the coolant reroute from the TB. I'll put that one up later.
As for your questions, yes, and some.

Heh, I always overlook the little easy jobs like this. I did it to my stock tib today and I'm happy. I did the reroute thing too, but that really doesn't matter. Maybe I gained half of a half of a pony. Think about that, I wonder what the resonator removal gives you maybe between the two I gained the power of a horse... thats awsome.
O.k,
I just did this mod about 20 minutes ago, I really like the sound of the engine now, it really does Purr @ 3700 rpm
Again, thanks alot for posting this mod for newbies like me!!
Im now wanting to learn more, and do more mods for sure.
I would love for you to post that coolant reroute thing too!

The filter that was in there was really dirty, and I am guessing that the original owner never replaced it (just bought my car 2 months ago), so tommorrow i'm going to buy the K&N drop in filter -

yoohoo i just removed the resonator too. only if i had better tools, i could have done it in half the time it took me....took me more than 2 hrs!! damnit. o well.
my filter was clean, so i didnt' bother buying a new one. but i'm thinking, if i'm gonna buy a new filter, i might as well get a CAI or short ram intake...hehehe
