I'm going to have to say the Nexus 7 from Google. Its a quad core with a fifth companion core and like 12 video processor cores and 12 video processor cores. 1 gig ram, 8 or 16 gig internal. Google uses the cloud for everything though.

I have the ASUS Infinity Prime with the keyboard dock and its amazing! I use it as a teaching aid and to gig with. So far, its super stable, fast, and the dock is amazing! It's probably the more costly tablet on the market right now, but IMO, its well worth the extra money.

I was thinking of grabbing a Nexus 7 to mount in the car. What do you mean it uses the cloud for everything?

I would like to utilize it for Google Maps GPS, Music, Bluetooth (Torque app), and maybe Movies. None of those seem like they were require an internet connection (for use while driving). I could download stuff and transfer files via WiFi when parked in the garage. Would it be a legitimate tablet option for the car? At $200 for 8GB, I like the price point. I'll likely wait a few months for a refurb or used version.

I'm actually considering doing the same thing. The nexus 7 is a great option. I'm also looking at possibly picking up a used kindle fire as well, hopefully for a little cheaper since it is getting a bit dated, but would still do everything I am interested in doing.

I am still very interested in keeping the quality of my audio in the car high, so I need to look into options for amplifying or getting a cross over or equalizer to adjust the sound to match what I already have in the car as far as audio components.

Google maps are not stored on the tablet itself and require an internet connection to be used.

There are other map program options available, some free, some paid, all free-able.

I use my Android phone in a similar manner and it seems to work fairly well. Audio quality isn't spectacular using headphone jack to rca input on back of head unit.

I'm told Google Maps uses GPS so nav works.. but you're saying on the Nexus 7 the app is cloud based?!

The GPS works, but the maps are downloaded from the cloud.

Yeah. You are tied to tethering or wifi. Its just something people don't think about right away.

If you try to buy a cheap kindle, that's what you're going to get. The Nexus7 is a much better deal with more than 2x the processors, way better video, and double the RAM. Also, the kindle requires a lot of hacking to even get a decent user experience like Android provides. The KF is locked down and Android based.. its not Android. I don't think it even has GPS or Bluetooth. By default you're locked into the much smaller Amazon Store.

Don't encourage companies like Amazon to make locked products.

Oh.. it will download the entire map before you start driving.
