So, let's say you place your own RFID reader on top of the pump at the gas station. Leave it there for a day. How much information is it going to pick up during those 24 hours?

Thinking from a programmer perspective, someone who wants to commit fraud and steal information, is something as simple as this possible?

Its not the same signal every time. Its some sort of authentication from what I understand.

They don't provide open access to the technology. Its supposed to be secure though.

We've explored RFID a lot in our warehouses. Coca-Cola is using it and it saves so much time and money for inventory tracking purposes. Unfortunately, it's still too expensive at a per-unit level, and our warehouses deal with SLIM margins and millions of units, but from what I've seen it's NOTHING like Bluetooth where you have to authorize a device or use a security code to connect. It's simply Near Feild Communication - be within range (typically 12-36 inches) and it recognizes it. Almost like a barcode scanner, but with a force field (or something) instead of lasers.

I don't know if there are different forms, versions, or methods for RFID, all I know is what we've explored and used within our company, for warehouse inventory purposes and door access.
