Default Current Hotness in Antivirus

Just curious what IT peoples thinks of the current offerings for antivirus

I've run McAfee for a couple year's now, but its just getting too bloated and its memory footprint is too large for my liking.

I was wondering if someone else offers a lighter weight package that still offers strong security (looking for firewall, antivirus, anti-malware, the works, ideally).

I'm not your typical idiotic user and I haven't gotten a virus or anything in year's, so I don't really need something idiot proof or one click setup - I don't mind if its a little more advanced or something.

I'm also not looking for something for free specifically. I've been paying for a subscription with McAfee for two year's now, just want something that takes up a bit less memory. I've run AVG before, and it was alright.

Thanks

Run Linux, keep Windows in a Virtual Machine. Run it in transparent mode if you like and the start menu and apps will appear to run natively in Linux. Set a restore point and don't worry because if something goes wrong it takes 20 seconds to revert the machine back and you're good to go.

I can't recommend running Windows at all. The only reason I need it is for testing app compatibility for those who haven't switched to Linux yet. Use your license key and a free copy of virtual box. You won't need to buy antivirus.

Try using the free Microsoft Security Essentials and paying for a licensed copy of MalwareBytes. This seems to work out good for Windows based computers.

I also recommend using Linux over Windows when you can.

I've tried a lot in the past 17 plus years and the one i use is avast free http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download the free version is pretty bloody good, the paid version would be even better.

And i have pop ups turned off.

In windows7 pro and ultimate you can install microsoft's virtual pc and virtual pc xp mode
