Default Cool Space Facts

1) Jupiter is larger than 1,000 Earths.

2) If u put Saturn in water it would float

3) Every year the moon moves about 3.8cm further away from the Earth.

4) The light hitting the earth right now is 30 thousand years old

5) The Sun loses up to a billion kilograms a second due to solar winds

6) If two pieces of metal touch in space, they become permanently stuck together

7) Halley’s Comet appears about every 76 years.

8. There is a supermassive black hole right in the middle of the Milky Way galaxy that is 4 million times the mass of the Sun.

9) The largest found meteorite was found in Hoba, Namibia. It weighed 60 tons

10) There are over 100 billion galaxies in the universe.

11) Any free-moving liquid in outer space will form itself into a sphere, because of its surface tension.

12) We know more about space than we do about our deep oceans!!

13) If you attempted to count all the stars in a galaxy at a rate of one every second it would take around 3,000 years to count them all.

14) The odds of being killed by space debris - 1 in 5 billion

15) Astronaut Neil Armstrong (the first man on the moon) first stepped on the moon with his left foot

16) If you shouted in space even if someone was right next to you they wouldn't be able to hear you

17) Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise

18. Just 20 seconds worth of fuel remained when Apollo 11's lunar module landed on the moon

19) One Day on the planet Pluto is about the length of a week on Earth

20) Footprints and tyre tracks left behind by astronauts on the moon will last several million years as there is no wind to blow them away...

22) Because of lower gravity a person who weighs 100kg on earth would only weigh 38kg on the surface of Mars.

23) In 1911 a dog was killed by a meteor at Nakhla, Egypt. This unlucky creatre is the only one known to have been killed by a meteor

24) If the sun suddenly stopped shining it would take eight minutes for people on earth to be aware of it.

25) From space, the brightest man-made place is Las Vegas, Nevada

26) Time slows down near a black hole and inside ceases to exist!!

27) In 1958 the US sent 2 mice into space - Benjy and Laska.

28. More than 1 million Earths could fit inside the sun. By far, the Sun is the largest object in our solar system.

29) In space no one can see you cry - gravity means tears won't flow normally.

30) It snows in the upper atmosphere of Mars but vaporizes before reaching the ground!!!

31) The sun is 3 million miles closer to the Earth during the winter than the summer.

32) Statistically, UFO sightings are at their greatest number during those times when Mars is closest to Earth.

99.999% of the mass is controlled by 1% of the solar system's objects. #OccupyTheSun!

Some of those are not true. Not going through the whole list, but I'll start with #4. Sunlight is only about 8 minutes old when it hits the Earth, not 30,000 years old.

Untrue. I don't know if 30k years is correct, but the photons are generated near the core of the sun and very slowly move outward through the sun's atmosphere. It's weird, but I've read about it.

It does snow on the surface of Mars, but the flakes are nearly microscopic.
