Hacker Group Anonymous Has Threatened To Hurt Zynga And Facebook

The hacker group that calls itself Anonymous posted a warning message to Zynga and Facebook today.

The message says it will take Facebook down on November 5 and release Zynga games to the public on that day for free if Zynga doesn't stop its alleged plans for massive layoffs and offshoring of jobs.

Anonymous says that it has obtained secret documents about Zynga's strategy which includes a "massive layoff of a thousand people."

The hacker group is ticked off about the jobs. "With a billion dollars cash sitting in a bank we do believe that such actions are an insult to the population and the behaviour of corporations like Zynga must change," it said.

Last week, Zynga reported that it has $1.6 billion in cash, equivalents and marketable securities and confirmed that it laid off 150 people. As for rumors of bigger layoffs, these have been circulating for a while.

But it's entirely possible that this planned attack is nothing more than a hoax and that the group does not have access to confidential Zynga plans or its games.

We have reached out to Zynga for comment and will update this story when we hear back.

Part of me would actually really would enjoy watching Facebook go down. Facebook as an idea is cool, but in reality has proven to be just shy of pure evil. People are addicted to it (myself included), they steal personal information constantly, and they have almost secretive control over how people see content published on it (while under the guise that anything you post goes to this group - they all see it, nobody else does). IMO, I've had my fun with Facebook, it can go away now.

Zynga, where to start? These people are the worst. They have the balls to take your real American cash (often from a credit card that charges you interest), in exchange for items IN A GAME! Many of the items that people buy in these games DON'T EVEN DO ANYTHING IN THE GAME, other that look "pretty". Then, when they've amassed a huge wealth, they lay off employees. f*ck these people!

Anon, do your worst. These guys deserve it!

This, I don't have the self control to lay off it myself. sh*t's nasty yo.

There are a lot of Anonymous impersonators getting around these days, but it sounds cool if it's the real deal.
