What you should do, and I recommend this to everyone especially if the car is new to you. Go to a big open lot during a rainy day and a snowy day and spin the car out of control.

Don’t go 60mph and turn!
I'm saying go 30 or so a purposely throw your car into a drift or slide and see what your car does. That way if it happens you know what to do and you won’t be scared when it happens. Don't let the car drive you; you drive the car!!

Trust me in the end its all worth it because if you start spinning out and have done some practice you will know what to do and could save your life or even your cars life.
Plus you get to have fun in the process smile.gif

Remember do it in a controlled fashion don’t get to carried away cause sh*t can happen.

Oh, and like everyone says tires matter a lot! I use Yokahoma ES100's and I love them.
(Side note, I drive to top of mountain with ES100s and no chains with no problems)

I was was running Es100's and they were terrible in the rain. Had to swap them out for KDW2s.
The Tib when set up appropriately is a very good "bad"weather car. I driven mine in the winter without issue. As a matter of fact I get a big kick seeing all the ass hats in their SUV's stuck on the side of the road as I cruise on by in my fwd in the snow.
Imo, It's the driver.

I highly doubt this. When you're turning going 45 regularly and the car slips, this is not the driver's fault. I have experience with Michigan weather but it's a chore to drive my car in the snow.

I'll back up what was said earlier with the All Weather tires. All Weather means they do allright in any weather, but don't perform GREAT in any of them. The stock Michelins were All Weather, and worked allright when dry, and nothing better than OK in rain, snow, or any other conditions.

Maybe it's your tires, what are you driving on?</div>

Ditto, my Tib had Kumho 712's HANDLED GREAT in the rain.

And I actually had WINTER TIRES!
All seasons blow goat!

Could definitely be your tires. For my stock tires Im using Kumho Ecstas..their awesome.</div>

Can't agree more,... I was VERY surprised how good they handled in the rain.

Yeah, my 712's worked great, but wore out pretty fast in the end.

My Ziex 512's KICKED ASS in the rain and snow, no problems in the summer and dry either.

My favorites have been the Falken Ziex 512's and the Cooper Zeon ZPT's. You can get both, at Autozone, for one HELL of a good price.

A good driver adapts to the conditions. If you think you can whip around corners doing 45 under all conditions, then you are not a good driver. Look at your original post. That about sums it up. It ain't the car.

While rain did play a big part in the death of my tib, I never found the car that bad in inclimate weather EXCEPT when using the stock original michelins. Those had to be the worst tyres I have ever had the "pleasure" of using. AND they were expensive too!

I have driven in the snow on Yokohama Paradas.. tyres with NO snow rating and except for having some issues getting moving, did not have a problem with them.

In then went to BF Goodridge and they were a decent tire (I forget the model now) and then to the Perelli P-Zero Nero M+S. I cannot say enough good things about that tire.. I will be putting them on my Bimmer soon when I get my 17 inch rims... That should say something.

As for braking and handling in the rain and snow. You basically cannot drive the same as when it is dry. You need to slow more and sooner for the corners in the rain and a LOT more in the snow. Not only are you lacking friction between the car and the road, but you usually have to deal with visibility issues as well.

Just drive safe, that is all any of us ask.
