Nobody follows the 2 second rule. You just can't in medium to high traffic, or even you're following a car and you think you're far enough. 2 second at close to 60mph/100kph is around 33m/s. A car measures what, 4 meters? You would have to leave (33m * 2) / 4 = ~16 car lengths, or about 66m, in order to follow the 2 sec rule at 60mph. Pretty funny. When you're going 30mph, it would be around 8 car lengths. Do YOU leave 8 car lengths between you and the car in front when you're going 30mph? I know I don't, and can't. In traffic, about 10 cars would get into that 16 cars space. Same for medium to low traffic.
This didnt exactly happen to me either but I remember as I was driving I saw the cat. converter on someone's car just dragging on the roadway. I just dont quite understand how people can't notice that. As for potholes and stuff, here in jersey, the nj turnpike is pretty safe, although sometimes there are flying pieces of rock from the trucks. I remember once I was driving the Tib and this big rock just slammed on my windshield and I nearly had a heart attack; or I remember some douche bag changing lanes from the right into the middle just as I was changing lanes from the left and he almost killed me because he didnt see me coming..luckily I swerved back in the lane safely. The city where my college is, there's speedbumps everywhere. While driving on there and then on rt. 24 over here, my tires became wayyy unbalanced.
Your lucky no real damage was sustained to your car..by keeping distance though things like this may be avoided hehe but I should talk cause I dont keep too much distance infront of me either except in traffic. tongue.gif
