I've got this freakin horrible oil leak that won't go away!~@#%#$%&$

It's at the oil pan near the crank main seal. But I'm not exactly sure which one it is. At first I replaced the main seal and cap gasket cause it looked like it was pooring down the side of the block. I eventually stripped the cap bolts for the pan from taking it off so much. So I had to replace the whole main cap. Still leaked. It then looked like it was coming from the oil pan in the same area. So I took off the oil pan and found that I must have accidently pried it off and put a small dent on the mating surface of the pan. So I banged it flat again, and resealed it 2 days ago. Last night, I took it for a good drive, and it started leaking AGAIN!!! I have yet to find where it's coming from. Everytime, it leaks so bad that it's hard to tell where it's coming from exactly. It's so close to the tranny.
It's so bad that oil is all over the bottom of my car, and smokes like a b**** when I come to a stop. The exhaust pipe burns it. Pretty damn embarrasing. sad.gif

I've got other mods stacking up, waiting to be installed, but I've been fighting this damn leak for the past couple months now.

when finding a leak in any system (coolant and so on) you need to apply forensics.

Clean the engine, bay and any parts of the engine then simply roll out aload of paper on the ground, park the car over it and idle the engine.

Watch for drips and then follow them back to the source of the drip (look for spatter patterns and what direction they are going in and also any run patterns).

This is how I found out where my trans was leaking smile.gif

I already somewhat know where it is. Problem is that I don't know how to seal it and "pinpoint" where it's coming from so that I can.
The spot is behind the tranny housing. So it could either be the very edge of the pan at the end of the block, or it could be the main seal, or the cap.
I can't take off the tranny and run the motor so I can find it.

Here's the vid. The leak is dripping in the center. This is looking just over the center support, at the end of the pan. I don't have the plate over the flywheel.

dood, i hate them damn leaks.. it is embarassing as hell, when you stop.. nice oil smell/smoke.. makes people think ur car is POS. i got my pan bolts fixed (heliocoiled) and its still leaking WTF. i know what you mean, cuz i stripped one of the tranny cap bolt holes, and now its fixed but still leaking.. oil all over the bottom of my pan, going all down my xmember.. it suxors.. so now i got to get my car up in the air again and figure it out.. i cleaned under my pan and drove normal.. no leaks.. then i drove under boost.. leaking.. so i dont think the seal is good enough for the pressure.. damn i hate the oil pan.. id rather install a turbo, DP, and exhaust.. the oil pan suxors..

Yea, a couple drops on the exhaust makes a TON of smoke. So it looks like the car is on fire. Pretty f***ing embarrasing. pat.gif

i know that this is old.. but...

you knew it was the oil pan, it being not true-leveled or somehow it is warped and not sitting flush into the block/rear main cap, even using tons of gasket maker and even torquing the pan bolts a little more, it'll still leak around the same spot... so after taking it off and on a few times to and making the pan as flat as possible... did it just got fixed after a while? what did you exactly do?

i am having the exact same symptoms as yours... i am very confident that it is not from the rear mail seal or the the rear main cap gasket since i just rebuilt the engine, this happened while i was breaking the car in and it leaks at the same spot as yours

please let me know your thoughts, i know that other guys like socks went for the beta 2 oil pan, but i kinda wanna leave that route as the last option

Yeah this is old but just want to say I know what you mean, I think the oil system hates me too, I don't seem to be losing oil or anything, and there's no smoke or anything, and I never get any oil that drips under the car like when it's parked, but somehow I always end up with a half a drop hanging from my pan. It's so annoying.. 02.gif

Jon do you have a metal oil pan or the xd pan. the metal pan here in korea is notorious for leaking that is why they went with a whole new pan design for the gk and Xd . if you need a new rear seal and cap let me know. but i know its your pan

I ended up fixing this. I think I just flattened the lip and resealed the main seal at the same time. I think it was just better doing them both versus doing only the pan. The seal at that spot went together better.
