That's cool, it you do it do a DIY I am pretty dumb when it comes to electronics. All I did was burn solder in Elecricity class.

Of course I'd notice it at night. It usually happens when I'm in a rush to get
somewhere and leave the car without realizing it, like if I'm late 4 work...

I know lotsa cars have little secret type things, like my dads, explorer sport, to turn of the warning he has to (something like this) turn the ignition to ACC, then off, then to start, then turn on the halogens, then, press the brake pedal 3 times in 5 seconds, then flip on the lights, then turn on overdrive, realy weird shnit like that, same thing for like programing the little beep that beeps when u dont have your seat belts on, maybe there are these programing codes in our Tibs, i know they are kinda secratish, my dad knows them cuz he has the FACTORY manuel not the one that you normaly get.

Has anyone ever set up a buzzer/relay in their 1st gens so this would work? I was told that you could just jam a piezo buzzer's wires into certain fuses(ie. rear defog or wipers and headlights or parking lights) and it would work. Not a fan of the idea of jamming anything into my fuses, so if there is a better method that'd be great. Otherwise I'll just have to learn to double check the lights.

 

i at first thought it would be easy, but then i thought of something.

you dont want the thing buzzing while your driving and the headlights are on. because of this, it will be harder. im thinking stock, it has something to do with the ETACS. i cant find a thing on webtech about it.

 

If you get one of those cheapo $99 installed alarms from Circuit City or Best Buy, they usually have a headlight warning.

Or you could buy a headlight warning kit and install it yourself if you are technically inclined. Several options in the $15-30 range. Here's one. Here's another. Do it yourself for just a few bucks in parts. I'd rather get a kit that had a solid housing and everything I need though.

The easiest install would be to have it warn whenever the ignition is off, but you could also set it to warn only when the ignition is off and the driver's door opens, as per the DIY version.

I disabled the headlight warning in my car, and just set my alarm to always cut power to the headlights and dome light when armed. That's actually nice because then when I go out to my car at night and disarm, the lights cut on to help me see where I'm walking. That's why I haven't bothered to set up the remote headlight activation, which would take up an aux channel.

 

IMO one of the easiest ways to deal with this problem is the way Fiat did. Put relays in line with the headlights that are activated when the key is in the run position. Thus you shut off the car and the lights go out. No more dead battery. Just a thought. I would have to do some research but could come up with a DIY if needed.

 

heh.. I know with my fiat.. if I have the headlights on and turn the car off.. all the lights go off. I can however move the switch to the parking lights and those will come on. It's strange, but it works.
