anyone know if those little plastic reflector plate covers actually work?
ok just to state why this is sooooo retarded
new mexico law states that a uniformed officer must be present if you break a motor vehicle law they have to be in uniform to give you a ticket
first it started out with stop light cameras that take a pic of your plate if you blow a light
which i dont mind at all im glad those are there it just feels like a HUGE entrapment thing
12 years ago my wife almost died when a guy blew a stoplight and smashed into the van they were traveling in. it flipped the van it was such a hard hit so im glad they started adding those cuz anything that keeps retards from blowin stoplights is a good idea at first it was just warnings now they are actually sending out tickets
BUT NOW THIS IS RETARDED
albuquerque has now started using vans with cameras and radar in which they park somewhere and if you are caught going 1mph over you now get a ticket in the mail for a minimum of 100
remember how i stated a officer has to be present? well this is how they are gettin around all this
albuquerque passed a public nuisance law for stuff like loud music and dogs that keep gettin out of the yard hell they can ticket you if you have a vehicle in your property that doesnt run....(my brother almost got one for my car...we had to prove we couldnt park it in a garage)
so basically if you are speeding you are determined as a public nuisance
it is a automatic ticket and there pretty much isnt fighting it at all since they got you on camera
so your pretty much screwed...
now im not condoning speeding hell i rarely do it anymore myself
but come on 1mph!!! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Actually, it's not illegal at all, there are signs up, and the ONLY place they are using those camera vans at are at the SCHOOL ZONES.
I fully support it.
Also, if you get a Red Light Camera ticket, even here in Albuquerque (The ACLU sued the ABQ Government about it), you can easily get out of it, you just prove that it's not you in the car. If the picture doesn't show YOU, or you can't be seen in it, ticket dismissed.
Some info on the cameras here.

That's 9,000 violations in 14 months, by ONE camera.

500 in 2 weeks.
This one here is about the vans. You'll have to cut and paste it as the URL function keeps screwing up the link.

I see what you are talking about now though, the 2 new vans are for neighborhood use, but read this...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The citations issued aren't actually speeding tickets. Instead police will issue administrative citations, which like red-light-camera citations, do not show up on your driving record.</div>

i know how you feel mate over here in the U.K we have had these copper vans for ages i got caught by one on a carrige way about 2 weeks ago, the road i was on has a limit of 60mph then when the road starts to bend the limit is dropped to 40mph, beyond the bend they park up on some waste ground and bang ,they get you as you are slowing your speed, but they get away with it because by law the vans should be visible from so many yards away, the've obviously done the measurments which allows them to be just on the right spot ( bast****), they say you can fight it in court but then they go on to say if you do and loose you' appeal your fine could be increased by the judge ,you get more than 3 points on you licence and you haveto pay the court fees to, sounds fair or bullying tactics( wan***s), as you can see it pi**** me off.

Here's some info on the ACLU's stuff.

As for what was said above about 'Getting you while you slow to the speed', that's also completely legal. A speed limit sign shows you the SPEED LIMIT AT THAT POINT. It doesn't mean "Slow down to this speed now". You should be going that speed when you get to the sign.

in ref to Redz comments, they say they are for safty over here, yet i have never seen one of these vans by a school yet, we also have fixed cameras on the roads to for the same safety reasons ,to stop people speading but as yet i've never seen one of these by a school , in one way i do agree with them if they are used as they should be but it just seems like a way to make more money for the concils and police forces, in the area i live in there is a straight road that is about 5 miles long , clear view all the way to the end oh and about 3 houses yet they have put 14, yes 14 of these camaras, how can that be for safty!!!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (hamhead @ Jul 18 2006, 11:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>That seems really gay. Especially since your speedo can be off by it not being calibrated right, or just changing tire sizes.</div>
You can use this argument in Court, I've used it several times and have got my tickets lowered, if not dismissed. Now I just make sure my stuff is calibrated correctly and don't speed.

They used to have those photo radar vans all over the highways in Ontario. The provincial government scrapped the project as part of an election promise. My dad got nailed several times for speeding, but most of them were for doing 10km/h over the limit. And the worst part is that I think it caused more accidents than it prevented. As soon as people saw a van on the side of the road they'd lock up their brakes...
Now, putting these vehicles in school zones is a great idea and I would support it as well. I do 10km/h under the limit in some cases. A lot of times I crawl past schools in residential areas just to be safe.

i know what your saying Redz, but if youre doing 60 then you see a 40 sign on the approach to the bend surely they dont expect us to hit the brakes that hard so that when you see the sign you suddenly think shit i'm over the limit and slam on the brakes, if sayes 60 at one piont and further on theres a 40 sign between the two signs is 60, so basicly as soon as we hit the 40 sign we are to do 40 , i dont like braking that hard on bends espiecally when you've got a tailgaitor.

yup and they said red light cameras were only to issue warnings
and that they were gonna keep them on montgomery
yup i believe they are gonna just keep them in school zones...
also it doesnt matter who is driving the car the ticket goes to whoever the car is registered to
also i had a judge tell me once that "ignorance doesnt exclude you from the law" so if you install bigger tires you should know better...
