I was able to go 3 years before I had to change mine. Getting ready to buy a new set of Hawks since Im getting close to my wear indicators.
Depends on how much braking you do, and how hard you step on the peddle. My car is still on the original OEM pads, and it's just about 5 years old. But it has a little over 30,000 miles and is only driven 6 months out of the year.

On the Accent I usually get about 30,000 miles out of a set of front pads if there's no racing. I'm still on the factory rear shoes even with all the racing at 198k miles. I'm pretty convinced that they do zero percent of the braking.
My LC accent nuked its front pads around 30k; back looked newish. The Elantra sitting outside still has factory shoes on the rear at 140k. Fronts replaced twice a bit before they REALLY needed it.
