What are your thoughts on buying used suspension parts?

Im wondering what you all think about buying used suspension that has already been on a car for awhile, like lowering springs or performance struts or even coil overs. Is it a bad idea? I think buying coil overs or struts are not a smart move but springs should be ok since they cant really be worn out like the other 2 can, right?

Springs can wear out over time too.

Depending on the mileage/age of the parts in question, I would have no problem putting on used suspension parts on my car. I kept the old springs off my car when I lowered it, they only had 50000km on them and were in great shape. I plan on re-installing them or selling them with the car when I'm done with it.

I know a few people who put used brake parts on their car. Used pads can be bought at the junk yard for under $5. Why not!?

I've done it, I'm on second hand coilovers right now. Struts/coilovers could blow at any time (including already) so I wouldn't spend much on used struts and I would be prepared to buy new strut cartridges for coilovers.

I'd only do it because I can't afford new (duh). Perhaps for stuff like bushes and struts it isn't worth it though.

for me, anything with rubber bushing or seals isn't reuseable.

as for springs and sway bars, i had bought both used and never gave me problems,

i bought used hks sport springs from patreezy and bought a front adjustable whiteline sway bar for my beta lc when i still owned it

i bought used springs and never had any issues with them at all and i'm considering buying used coils.

I think it depends on the amount of milage and the condition they are in.

Well it’s a great approach to go in for used stuff as I too prefer the same over their new counterparts. While searching for a used suspension for my Accent, I came across some great sites for used parts such as mypartshop, autopartsfair.com, harborautoparts etc.

After checking those out I finally found what I required at autopartsfair website. They have a vast collection of OEM certified spares and accessories (over 30 million) as compared with their competitors and they offer a one year warranty on all parts purchased from them. I bought my auto parts from them and am pleased with the performance since installation.

Sometimes it depends on the brand ( or lack there of ) but I have bought used before. I ran upon a almost new set of red stuff pads and drilled rotors at a local yard a while back. They use to about give stuff like that away.
