Default tire noise

well ever since i went down from 17" Avid H4 to 16" Kumho 711 my car has been noisy as hell and it is driving me nuts....i cnat take it anymore!!!

example of that noise: ever drive next to a redneck truck by with those huge tires going aroud 40...sounds exactly like that and when i get up to 50+ it just becomes constant "BWOOOOOOOO"

i went over to tirerack and compared looked at Noise ratings comparison between my old H4 and 711's....it is about the same like half a point difference.

i cant think of why they do that

today i had a theory that noise may be caused by the increased space between teh tire and fenderwell

if you're nto sure waht i am talking about remember how when you were a kid you used to yell in to those huge pipes at construction sites
it totaly changed the sound. well if you do that with small pipe it would be lot weaker
now back to the tires, could it be possilbe now

do you see what ia m getting at?

hope this doesnt sound too stupid

i see what you're saying, but i don't think that's it. the noise ratings you're talking about are probably for cars of a certain weight. i'm sure the noise characteristics change, depending on the weight and speed of the car and the temperature of the tires.

I was talking to a guy that came to my shop yesterday and he was saying the same thing about his tires. However, he said there was tire noise once the weather got cold. So I'm guessing that it could be caused due to the cold temps. Otherwise, I don't know.
