ok, so i want to build my car to handle like a beast. I have front and rear strut bars, full race coilovers. I want to get sway bars next.
I know the tibs have a lot of understeer and i was just wondering which sway bar would be best to minimize the understeer.. the rear or front?
And what else would someone recommend as being my next mods to increase my handling for the track?
Also i heard that GK sway bars fit on the RD's.. I don't think thats possible but could someone confirm this

Thanks
Vic

to minimize understeer.. you want to stiffen the rear or soften the front some.

The GK rear bar works.. but it is not a big change from the bar that is already on the car.

are you sure stiffening the rear will minimize understeer?
cause i heard that if you stiffen the rear you will get more understeer..

the setup on my coils currently i have the rears stiff way more stiff than the front. went to the track and still felt major understeer..

well i wasn't planning on putting a stock GK sway, but instead getting an aftermarket sway for the GK and putting it on mine since its easier to get and find.

mad is right. a bigger rear sway bar will reduce understeer. hers a good read on why...

id get a eibach rear bar for your car. it would help tons; maybe even too much.

so heres a question.
when i was adjusting my race coilovers. They are the quest 16-way adjustable ones. The preload on the front and back are very close the way i set it and as i was making re-adjustments for the rear the adjustable dampner knob broke off as it was on the STIFFEST setting (16). Don't ask it was a long story . But basically cause one of them broke off i had to adjust the other rear one to 16 as well. the fronts are set at around 8-9.
The way i had the rears so much more stiffer than the fronts, was this giving me more understeer or oversteer?

Bah...to get rid of all your confusion...if your rear end is too stiff you will get OVERSTEER. Why? Because your rear suspension doesn't not flex as much, reducing roll, but increasing the stiffness. This is similar to the effect of RWD vehicle spinning the rear end out. It's what helps in those retarded FWD drifting rice competitions.

I didn't realise adjusting damper settings made that much of a difference to over/understeer.

In regards to the sway bar though, I personally have a solid 20mm rear sway bay with good heavy-duty mounts & the difference is quite noticeable. I think a 22mm adjustable sway bar would be even better.

If you read through that article Tibby01 found for us.. just stiffening up the rear shocks is not going to make your car into a tank slapper... you would need to increase the spring rate too.

You might get more oversteer with way stiffer rear shocks.. but only because the bounce and rebound of your shocks/struts to the spring ratio is out of wack and your springs are not strong enough to get the wheels to rebound after a bump or they cannot react fast enough for when the wheels come up into the fenderwheel on the Jounce. (used new terms today!)

I would get that knob of yours fixed.. never known when you might need it... nana.gif
