No, you can't take them out, if you did, the wheels would come off. The studs for the lugs are on the rotor, and the rotor is bolted to the hub.

It's a VERY easy swap to do, I even did a DIY writeup about it. About 1 hour per side.

 

like Redz said, you can't take those bolts out. Do not do it, you will loose ability to brake.

Also do not modify them (shave/mill them), it's too dangerous.

If you go ahead on the swap, Tirerack had an inventory closeout on 00-01 NON captive Brembo rotors, they were at $25 each plus shipping, total of $65 more or less.

Search for Jer's DIY. Read it thoroughly and find out for yourself how long you think it will take you. I think a friend helping you out would make things easier (hold calipers, help with stuff, etc.). But it can be done solo..

G'luck. The swap isn't much man. Most of your money will be spent on the new non-captive rotors (but I see two people in this thread already wanna help ya out with gettin' those cheap). I say SWAP!

chances are.. the guy who wanted to remove them thought your car had the little bolts that hold the rotors to the hub.. like the later RDs and RD2s. You can remove those with no issues.
