I have some noise coming from the rear stabilezer bushings (those that holds stabilizer to body).

I changed bushings, but I found that stabilezer is thiner (in diameter) in place where bushings are. Noise stopped but after 3-4 K miles it comes back 02.gif

What to do? I don't really want to change stabilizer 02.gif

i know there is a grease you can use for that as for the name i am not sure, it could be white grease, lithuim grease

but i know they make grease that will not attack the rubber and that is the kind you want to use.

or do as the koreans do, use WD-40 or spray on grease i know Wruth make some

hope this helped you out homie

d ive heard of a mod that says to put a little metal shim of sorts at the back of the stabilizer to hold it there tight
try that and some graphite powder also i heard that helps

there is a special suspension grease you can use. if your bar is thinnner at the bushings though, thats bad. i just took mine off and i didnt really look for thinning, but i definately did not notice anything around the bushing area. i can check again though if you want.

spray graphite might help, but i dont think its durable enough and would probably wear off fast. give it a try though, that stuff is neat.

yes when it's fresh freesed it's ok but not for a long time.

maybe I can use bushings with a bit smaller diameter? or put something on the stabilizer to make it same diameter as new?

Hi Dimitry,
when I changed my bars for the Whitelines I faced a problem I would bet is similar to yours... and it's not actually the bushings making the noise...
look for this thread: Rear Sway Bar Slides to the Side and Sounds
Well, the thing is if your bushings are bigger than your bar, you are OWNED, there is no way they will work, you have to change them. To my knowledge, Hyundai only equipped J2 and RD's with two diameter rear bars, 14mm for the GL (in the coupe would be the 1.8 with rear drums) and 17mm for the Elantra GLS and Coupe (Tiburon) 2.0 FX; so go get the right bushings for your application privat drillsergeant.gif
lmao.gif
As for the problem I had, it was the bar sliding to one side (driver's side in my case) which caused it to rub against a metal part of the lower body, and it generated a very high note noise, like quiiiiik-quiiiiiiiiik-quiiiiiik every time I passed over a little bump. Well I solved it by centering the bar and applying lithium grease (my Whitelines came with poly bushings; hence the lithium grease) and then cleaning both sides of the bar next to the bushing. Then I cut a little piece of rubber hose (use coolant hose or something like that please, not garden hose) like 2cm long, with an internal diameter aprox. 19mm (my bar is 19mm) then I cut it longityudinally and forced it around the bar as if it was a bushing, then I put a stainless steel hose clamp over it and tighted it really (REALLY) hard.
I havent' heard a noise from there in over 6 months.
I hope it helps; check that the noise actually comes from the bushings... rubber bushings rarely sounds... and if they are new they shouldn't sound at all. If your bar is not centered, you have the problem I had.

Are your bushings OEM Hyundai equipment? If not what brand are they?
If you ordered OEM or aftermarket bushings for a coupe, my bet is they gave you the bars for the 17mm rear bar, and if your bar is NOT 17mm then the only chance is you have a 14mm bar (the bar CAN'T be 2mm shorter than the bushings because there are no 15mm bars nana.gif ) so actually the bar might be 3mm smaller in diameter; which indicates nor the bushings or the bar are actually working... your car must have a weird handling like this... maybe because you are in winter with slippery roads you are driving slow... (actually, for the snow this setup would be better than normal, even disconnecting the rear bar is the best for snow)

If you actually have the 14mm bar, you HAVE TO get yourself a thicker bar, an aftermarket one (you being close to Europe could get the H&R rear bar) or at least get an OEM 17mm from a junkyard or maybe a dealer that has cars involved in accidents. I drove my wife's Elantra with the 14mm bar for over a year and I hated the handling of the car; when I improved my Tibs bar, I put the OEM 17mm into the wife's car and it improved the handling A LOT (not as much as the Whitelines improved my Tib's habdling, but there was a real improvement.)

DUH, I have stock KDM stabilizer. So I think it's 17 mm. But I have a wear on my stabilizer so it's smaller in diameter ONLY in the place where it meet the bushings
