Quick Brake Question
Okay, let me first start out by saying that I've read about 95% of the 12 pages of DYI. I was changing my rear brakes in my 01 today and ran into a few snags. First of all, the piston was a complete pain to compress, and yes I did use the special cube attachment. I also opened the bleeder cap slightly to relieve pressure. Is there a simpler way to compress the piston? I also noticed that the piston boot had a slight tear in it. I know I need to get it fixed, but will there be adverse affects if I don't tend to it in the next couple days?
Here's the real kicker - I installed the new pads and went to adjust the caliper to allow for more spacing for the rotor to fit, when I realized that the last person to change the brakes (my mechanic) snapped the head right off of the bottom bolt that holds the two caliper parts together and adjusts their distance apart. I know that this bolt is 14mm in diameter and has a "10" marked on the top. (The pitch I'm guessing?) Can someone please tell me the length of the bolt so that I can get a new one at Fastenal? I called the dealership (2 of them actually) and they were both clueless. I've checked the HMA website as well as the part guide stickied on this website. I attempted to remove the top caliper bolt as a reference, however there was a washer preventing it from coming all the way out. Am I missing something here? Additionally, how would you tiburon aficionados go about removing the bottom part of the bolt from the caliper?
Sorry about the novel, but in my five years of changing brakes in the tib, I've never run into any issues like this.

You can buy 'drill-out' bits at local hardware stores, they're basically a special drill bit with reverse threads so that you drill it in counter-clockwise and the deeper it goes the more it tries to twist the bolt out. As for the bolts, you can get them at part stores that sell Hyundai specific parts (e.g. rockauto.com under Brakes/Caliper bolt).
I would just get a new loaded caliper tho, it was only like $70 at Autozone a while ago

Loaded caliper is the way to go. I have had quite a few rear calipers seize up on me from lack of maintenance before I got the cars.
As for the drill out bit be very careful and use the biggest one possible. If you break the bit trying to get the bolt out it is nearly impossible to get out without wrecking a lot in the process.
