Question about the stock donut tire
How far can you travel with the stock donut on before it becomes unsafe? I ran over some glass by accident and it put a huge slash in my tire. I ordered a new one but it wont be here for about a week since UPS and the post office are under heave load from the holiday season. This weekend I have to travel around 200 miles away and back (400 in total) and I was wondering if thats going to be a problem with the donut on the car.

that's a lot of miles on a donut. Speed would probably be the biggest factor, aren't they suggested to limit speed to 35mph? Should say on tire.

i think the max speed on them is 50 mph but i have never went over 50 miles on one of them. I wouldn't do it.
think of it this way. ever shake your head when you see a POS car go by with a donut on it, driver and all the passengers shoving their face with McD's fries or burgers, while talking on smartphones....but can't afford a damn new tire?

Speed rating for spares is 55mph. I would not start your journey with that on there.
There has to be a tire shop in the area that has the tire your looking for.

Worst, worst, worst case scenario and you DO have to use that donut, take it easy, go the recommended speed limit, and put the spare on the rear of the car. Matching tires are very important to the drvieline parts of your car. Put the spare on the rear where you have a free wheeling hub.

a spare will last a ver long time mileage wise as long as you dont try to load up 1000lbs in the back of the vehicle and try to drive 90mph
MOST spares are actually rated BELOW 55mph, some are as low as 35mph so read the sidewall and MAKE SURE you inflate to the max pressure
if i were you i would look into at least getting a used tire for the time being, 20 bux is cheap insurance

tibbytib makes a good point: if you run a donut spare that's a different size on the front, you'll put excessive heat and wear on the transaxle in the best case and need a new one in the worst.
