The stock Michelins have a lower tread rating than 300 so just look at it that way. I have the BFGoodrich Traction T/A they have a tread rating of 440 I believe (they are 50k mile tires). If you open up the first link at the top it has where you can click on the specs and it shows you all the information on the tire.

That is the link that I tried to post. Click on specs and it tells you the treadwear and traction and temperature.

Ultra beat me to it

I am going with these. They have a 320 rating and AA traction and they are cheap in 15s. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...romCompare1=yes

that's hideous!! i bet they're just trying to promote it because it's not selling...

go with some kumhos man. if not, toyos, or michelins. i think dunlops are terrible from my own experience (i've had two sets of high performance)

Thats great that you think dunlops are crappy but the ones he was looking at were BFGoodrich wink1.gif

Personally I like the PNero Zero M+S, for an $80 or so tire they are very nice, likeI said above the Traction T/A are REALLY nice but they are also $125 each I believe.

Oddly I just put the BF-Goodrich G-Force Sports on the Tibby since my dad loved the slicks they make. Not the best traction tire (can launch at about the same RPM as stockers, maybe 100RPM more) but they handle 3000% better in turns.

i don't think you guys realize i need a 215/40/r17 tire. i think their priced cheap just to get rid of them because they stoped carring them. how far would a 300 tread rating go?? 15000 miles? 20 25?

sorry guys, ive read about it, and it still isn't really clicking yet. i wish i could just get rid of the car sometimes.

that's quite alright. guess it's a yes or no question based thread.

keep in mind, the higher the tread rating the less grip.

The thing is a treadwear rating of 300 on a Yokohama is not the same as on a Hankook for example. Manufacturers use their own scales based on their tires. I.E if they're 400 treadwear tire wears 0.25 times faster than the tire they are using, they give it a 500 treadwear rating.

You have Ventus HRIIs? They aren't that bad of a tire, I guess you just wore them down fast. I always recommend Yokohama Parada Spec IIs because they last long and they do grip pretty good on dry pavement and ok in the rain. Snow, eh... don't go there.

hamhead: all tires are graded by the utqg (universal tire quality grade) which is dot (department of transportation) controlled. all tires run the same course to determine their ratings.......

bryce... seems like your just looking for a cheap tire in your size, for $59 those are good tires, but compared to other tires it wouldnt be the same, if i were you i would get a tire with a AA traction grade (always tested wet) cuz were talkin about safety here. ive got the yoko parada spec 2's and i think theyr super duper, but with a treadwear of 300, whic is better than my old kuhmo 712's .......maybe around 10-18 months ill need some new ones depending on how i drive .......
