Ok, so I put on my new drilled and slotted rotors rotors last night in the dark. It took about 2 1/2 hours to remove everything, lube everything, anti-squeek, and reassemble with new parts. I'm wondering if this much brake dust is normal.
I don't know how much dust to expect from new rotors. I've always had mine turned. I do know that i've never seen this much brake dust durring 40 miles of break-in driving. I've been applying light to medium pressure and driving on 35MPH roads. I know the wear pattern will even out as the brakes are used, but it's alot of dust. Is that just how new rotors are? Any experienced guys have any input?

They look sweet. Have you noticed the little extra stopping power?
Dont worry about the brake dust, it's normal. When i installed mine i had washed my rims before i got the wheels back on, stupid me didnt know it would produce so much brake dust. After i saw them when i drove from my cousens house (next door) i freaked out and got mad cause they got all dirty.
Anyway it's normal for that amount of brake dust, well at least mine were ok after that.

^^ ok, great! I've never delt with new rotors in my life, always resurfaced. I expected a break-in period, but i didn't realize it would involve so much brake dust.
I havn't pushed the stopping power yet. I want to break them in first. My brakes engauge closer to the top. It feels like a new brake system.
I really bought them, not for the stopping power, but, because I'm entirely too hard on my brakes and tend to warp rotors quickly, and burn out my brakes. Basically i was interested in drilled and slotted rotors because my old ones were squeeky and warped. This should make it more difficult for that to happen. From what I've read, the drill holes prevent warping by allowing more cooling to take place and the slots divert brake dust away so that it does not squeek.
But overall I'm impressed and notice the difference. These were $177 shipped with zinc coating and a set of "low dust" pads.

dtn those look great on there might i ask where you got them from? oh and ot topic yes it is normal, a friend of mine had the same dust problem (drilled rotors) on his focus and after a week or two they stopped producing so much dust

They're smooth edges, It's possible, but my wheels are completely disgusting now... I can't wait until they stop so i can make my rims clean again. Right now there's black nastys all over them.

Awww... It rained today and all the black junk that was on my rotor is now all over my rims. Hopefully that was the last of it. Maybe it just needed to be initially cleaned out.
