Default Metal on metal sound

I bought rear brake pads about 4 months ago and put them on the car. Everything has been fine with no problems but the other day I went to brake and all of a sudden I heard metal on metal, as if there wasn’t even a brake pad there. Havent inspected things yet, but it sounds like there isn’t even a brake pad anymore. They were cheap pads that I bought in a quick fix but I’ll get quality ones now. Could the pad have come out from the caliper and that’s whats causing the noise?

Could have, I've had the friction material delaminate from the backing before also.

Inspect them first. I always buy ceramic pads, nothing less!

Check the rotor for warping/grooves.

Did you bed them in before doing 130 mph stops? It is important that there is enough pad material on the rotor before you get too crazy with the new brakes.
