Default 1st gear problems.....

Hey guys, what's happening? I have a question for you guys. I have 16 by 7and half inch rims with Kumho Ecstas. I've had them for three years now and have put 25,000 miles on them. I rotate and balance them around every 6 to 9 thousand miles and have 40lbs of pressure in the tires.. I've noticed that my tires are going to be bald. To me, the tires should have lasted longer as they are hard compound. Is this normal? My rims are bent and even though they can be balanced, they still vibrate at 70mph or so. Are the rims the culprit/ What do you guys think?
AND I don't race or peel out/ I've only raged on them under 10' times for GTECH numbers.

Kuhmo Ecsta what? The Ecsta is the auto (car) performance tire line. So do you have the 711, 712, MX? What tread wear rating is on the tire?

it depends on how the tires are wearing. if they're wearing mostly in the middle and not on either of the edges, then it is because you're running w/ too much air. i know w/ 205/40/17s, its recommended to run 38psi.

if your tires are wearing in blotches all around the tire, then that could be caused by the balance...as a result of your bent rim. (also could be caused by suspension problems)

if you're getting wear on either one of the edges, then you're lookin at an alignment issue.

i JUST put the 712's on my car...so far, no complains smile.gif

Default what the hell

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tire says Kuhmo Ecsta Supra and that was what it was called when I bought it. Remember I have a 16" rim I think the 17" rims go by 711 712..not for sure.

Shark 01 thanks for that info..My driver's side front is going bald on the outside edge AND the passenger side front is going bald too but is wearing evenly.

The reason I'm asking is because IF the wear is due to something other than the rims, I was thinking of going to a 215/45 as my rims are 16x7 1/2. If it is due to the bent rim, I might as well replace the whole thing. I take good care of my car and watching out for my tires is always a priority.

the shaking is probably from the tires being so bald, i remember when i first got my car the car shook anytime i went over 60 because the cords in the tire were showing---it was bad. luckily i got new ones just a few weeks ago though, i got pulled over once and the cop told me they were a safety hazard because they were so bald, lol.

I should've said this earlier but it's been shaking for slightly over two years now. Even when they were just balanced, it would shake at highway speeds. The tires are not completely bald but it's getting there

I think you have some suspension issues to work out

i have those same exact tires. the ecsta supras. they're meant for high performance street in wet conditions and improved handling.

take note the treadwear number on the tire. it probably sayd 350 right? mine are wearing too. i've only had them for a few months. the rims/tires i just got have a tread rating of 100.

the higher the tread rating number the higher the wear.

i think thats about right....ive went though quite few of the kuhmo ectsa 712's, but i like to corner a lot, as for the shaking problem im not sure, maybe the shop isnt very good at balancing, maybe the rim is causin the problem ..... you said you have 16x7.5, what size tires do you have? also if it happened since the day you put your rims on it could be they need a hubcentric ring...
quick ?'s do you get any rubbing during cornering?? what kind of drop do you have??
