Default How important are hubcentric rings?

Bought some new rims but they didnt come with the rings. I know I can get a set off ebay really cheap but i was wondering how bad would it be if I drove around without them?

I just sold a set of 17'tires and rims to my buddy, only had 3 rings,so he left them all off., 2 of his wheels almost fell off around the 100km mark lol..Put 4 rings on and now no probs........use the rings!

I don't run rings on most of my cars and it's never caused even a vibration issue. If the wheels are lug centric it makes no measurable difference. If they're not, that's another story.
