Default help: need info before I replace my captive rotors ASAP

I have a 97 tib, with captive rotors. My brakes have been acting crappy the past few months, esp. trying to follow arctic (drive's like a madman). So, I got a set of Brembo OEM replacement rotors, and EBC greenstuff pads. Now, i haven't done the front brakes on the tib before, or worked with captive rotors at all.

Since webtech is down, I can't remember if the wheel bearing has to be removed and presed in order to replace the rotors. I think i just remove the captive spindle thing, and i can take off the rotor, right? (I'm not sure) a mechanic friend of mine thinks that I have to pop out the wheel hub and remove the bearing and press it back in to the hub with the new rotor installed. I'm kinda confused at this point, if anyone can clear this up for me, I'd appreciate it. smile.gif

It's hard, I used a slide hammer to remove my assembly. After 20min I got the rotor off, thus opening the bearing. I packed it with more grease, and torqued it down to seal the bearing. I now need to replace it.

I say F it and do the non-captive swap. This way you don't have to take it to a shop to replace things you should be able to EASILY do yourself.

hmm, so it sound slike the bearing does have to come out. crap. I already bought the rotors and the reason I don't do the non captive swap (though I raelly want to) is because of money issues.. I just ordered a new suspension setup and it cost me a ton, I can't afford to redo everything at once. I was trying to do this myself to save some $$$, but it looks like i'mm gonna have to get a shop to do it 02.gif
