Drop Springs
I know it's too late at this point, but could it have been possible that there was a right and left side that got swapped? Just because mine didn't sit that awkard, and I didn't need a spring compressor to put the new springs on... so I would think that having them shorter may make for a safety issue...

You have the top spring mount on 180 off. Look at the pic of the two... the one with the new spring is on wrong.
Either that or if the top of the spring will not sit in the groove right with the top mount the right way, then yes, the spring is not right.
