Well I just put on my new (to me) 17" velox vx8's (pictures soon) that I bought off of planrforrobert. I'll need to get a scale for when i switch back to my stockies for winter but dang I sure am glad I didn't get 16's!
By the lift it up this feels heavier method i decided the weight is pretty darn close with the velox's feeling a little lighter than stock. I would have an exact # but our scale is broken. The car's 10x more responsive handling wise and I've gotten 20 comments about them since putting them on sunday night. Plus there doesn't seem to be any problem with them hendering performance.
I don't want this to be a 16" verse 17" thread but i just wanted the people on the fence to know that your cars ride quality really won't suffer that much, I'm planning on a 2:30 hour trip this weekend each way and I'm not worried about it being too rough at all. And the handling more than makes up for it. Now driving in cars with regular wheels feels like driving on balloons!

^^WORD! I said the SAME thing when I got my 17" rims installed. wink1.gif
and the better handling may be due to the new tires you have on the car too, keep that in mind. fing02.gif

um.. let me clearify I went from stockies to 17" and these tires are used. the rears are about gone and the front have a few thousand more in em. so we aren't talking about great rubber. The old wheels had more rubber. A big part of the traction difference might be going from dean tires to kumho ecsta's even though they are badly worn.
I'm planning on putting on new rubber in the spring these will probably only be on for another week or two before snow comes.(don't wanna be driving in snow on summer tires!)
all I'm saying is for how much they are typcially put down around here. these 17's just might be my favorite mod. now when i get the turbo on that will probably change but for now....

Still doesn't matter, unless you have the exact same rim in 16 and 17, there are too many differences to classify what rim is better.
FACTS THOUGH.
1. 17 inch rims will slow you down, they takes longer for the tire surface to complete a revolution.
2. 17 inch rims, when compared to an identical 16 inch rim and same tire thickness, will ride rougher.
3. 17 inch rims, for the same reason as 2, will damage easier.
I'm glad you enjoy them mang.

^ Good points all around.
It's a matter of taste, I like the look of 17's myself, I'm not a huge numbers guy as the closest track is quite a ways away. So I ge tmore use out of the better looking 17"er's.
Glad to hear your enjoying them Supercow.
