I thought it was an RD2 for a moment there...
Seriously, the Celica has far too many miles on it to be considered reliable. I am not just talking the engine either. What about all the bushings in the suspension? Has the brake fluid ever been flushed? If not you might be looking at internally rusted calipers. Engine mounts are probably sagging some, all the switches have a ton of cycles on them. And what about underbody rust? There has to a little after all these years up north.
Best thing to do.. get a piece of paper and write down all the pluses and minuses of both cars.. then compare them. But remember, the BIGGEST minus on the Celica is the fact that it is an unknown quality. Do you really want to get stuck somewhere on the side of the road at rush hour?

..if you get the celica it better be because you are planning (and WILL actually do it) to swap and get the AWD turbo motor. otherwise, considering how many miles are on that thing...

Thing to note is that the All-trac doesn't just drop in the FWD chassis, and will require some fabwork. You basically need the entire front clip. Not something the weekend garage warrior goes about himself.

I've always liked that gen of the celica. Very nice lookin.
Me too, I almost bought one on 2 or 3 separate occasions but eventually decided to get my Tib.
