Hey guys, long time no see, hope everyone is doing ok around here.

Like the topic title says, i got a problem with my inlaws 98 Ford Taurus, it gave me a P0708 code (Trans Range Sensor). I looked around on Ford forums and they said it was a problem with the sensor to change it, and so i did but it didnt change anything.

The simptoms are as fallows;
It stays in first gear and wont shift to any other.
RPMs arent accurate, it stays lower than 1000 on the gauge then suddenly goes all the way up to redline.
RPMs go to redline and never shifts.

Thanks guys for the help, i need to fix this thing fast. sad.gif

I worked on a talon once where the tranny filter was all clogged up and it couldn't get out of 1st, switched the filter and it was good to go.

being as its your inlaws, the best solution probably involves snips and the brake lines though, lol

Replace the range sensor(neutral safety switch). Rock has it for $24.95.
The sensor is mounted on the top of the trans axle where the shift cable connects.

Yeah, i already changed that sensor and it didnt help any, the problem still persists. I´ll change the filter and see what happens after that.

Do you guys think that if i reset the computer, after i already changed the sensor, will help in any way?

The tranny oil is over the mark were it´s supposed to be, i´ll have to flush part of it out.

Any other ideas?

Wait, you didn't reset the computer to clear any codes after you changed the sensor? You need to do that. Any ODBII compliant car will store the code after 1.5 times at fault. Reset it and see what happens.
