There is a 96 accent for sale not to far from where I live they want 2 grand for it and it has only 66K miles (that's what caught my attention). I know they get very very good gas mileage that's another reason why I want it. Do you guys think that's a good deal? How reliable are they? I know there is a CRAP load of accent in my local junkyard.

that's either expensive or normal for an accent, especially from 1996. you can usually get good ones for $1000 range. lots of people get good newer ones for $500- $800.
tiburons from back then cost $2,000. and if you ask me a tiburon is that much more an upgrade.

I paid 1900 for my 2002 accent with 120,000 miles. Gets 39-41 MPG consistently. Never gone below 37. Try to get it for 1000 or 1200 as long as she's in good shape. Great commuter car.

I went to go look at it today. I was kinda sad that there was hardly any oil in there. The tire tread was a little low and inspection was out. The guy said he will have it inspected if I buy the car. I'm not sure if I want to buy it now or not. Maybe 1200 ill offer him... hes asking 2400 actually for it.

If you have a bad feeling about it, then follow your gut feeling. thats usually the right one. If you think most of the car is in good shape and can deal with putting some money into it to make sure its safe and reliable, then offer him something you feel comfortable with. If you feel you need to fix it up, KBB it, select poor condition, and offer him a little less than that. Then he'll at least see that you've researched it and made an effort to cover your ass and still give him a fair offer.
But follow your gut man. If it doesn't feel right, then don't do it regardless.
