To be honest it isn't the best idea to turbo a car on a smaller budget like this. Once you have the kit it's one thing, but it's best to have a bit of money set aside as well in case something happens. Turbo cars are still sucetable to the normal things breaking down as well as the added parts of the turbo system.

As far as my kit. It is complete. A downpipe made for my car may not fit your car and would be useless to you with out modification anyways. Everything you need for a base kit. I just havn't included tuning which I have but will not include for the price I am trying to sell the kit for. A walbro fuel pump can be had for a little under $100 but isnt necessarily needed for 5 psi.

Every single part in my kit is a quality part. No knock offs. I understand you want to go turbo for cheap, it's a theme of all tiburon owners. But in the long run it's not the best route.

Like ursonovs said we are not trying to push anything on you. Just letting you know your options.

Yeah, your offer is still pretty tempting, but it's just a bit too expensive and a hassle to get a custom downpipe and proper tuning done. Another guy on the forum is willing to sell his more complete kit for 1300$ shipped. I'm just a little worried the offer is a little "too good to be true". I found a website called Jattus Peformance that sells a stage 1 kit for around the same price as your incomplete kit. I just don't know if the kit is compatible with RD1 Tiburons yet.

Post up a link to the $1300 kit you are talking about, or tell us the name of the person so we can look at it all and tell you what is up.

Any kit you buy is going to require a bit of work to get installed, no matter WHO you buy it from. You'll either have to cut pipes, trim stuff on your car, remove and weld a fitting on your oil pan, it doesn't matter who you buy it from, this work needs done.

So, if THIS is too much work, give it up, as there is no "PLUG AND PLAY" kit that just slaps on in a few hours to turbo your car.

Here's a link to the 1300$ turbo I found in the forums http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?showtop...77&hl=turbo It's not complete, but after contacting the guy, he said that all that's really missing is some oil lines to complete the setup. Myself, I am not super mechanically inclined. I know how most stuff works and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, but my father has been a master Hyundai technician for 13 years. He COULD install it all for me, but it would require a lot of work over the winter (when I store the Tiburon and take out my shit-box Cavalier) and garage space we just don't have. I was going to go see a buddy who owns a performance shop in town to see if the 1300$ kit was worth it and how much he'd charge to install it all. But now after hearing these warnings from everyone, and reconsidering my budget (tuition payment coming up soon), I think it's safer to just drop the turbo idea and stick to my CAI. Down the road in a few years, I will juice this car beyond belief, but it's just unwise to play around with that kind of stuff at the moment. I'm only 18 and if I blow the engine on this car, I'll never get another one like it. Thanks for sharing your info/opinions everyone, but I think it's safe to just drop this thread now.

On a side note: does anyone know a good company I could purchase an LSD (limited-slip differential) from for my '99 Tib? I've heard it does wonders for handling and take-offs. Links and prices are really appreciated!

Thanks everyone! I'll still be prowling the forums to learn more about everything there is to know about my car! cool.gif

Good to see you are slowing down and thinking now. That kit looks mostly okay from what I glanced at, but you are still going to need to drop your oil pan and install this one, get lines done, and there is ALWAYS more that needs done when it is actually installed.

As for ALL of your questions, to include those answered and not so far, do some searching and you'll find 6 years full of good information about Turbo Kits, LSD's, and more.

if you would like to see what all can be done on a college budget look at what splintercel has done to his car. rumor mill has it he is working on a turbo kit right now but most of the stuff he put on his car was afforded by working as a whore for ambercrombie and fitch. nana.gif

few things.. do you KNOW that turbo kit will bolt up? if its new, then it may or may not have been fitted.. i know my speedfactor IC piping was off by a couple inches in spots and i had to spend about 100$ getting the pipes extended..

also, that downpipe will bolt to the turbo, but you will still have to have flanges added/moved in your exhaust system.

emanage is a lil bit tricky to get working right on the tib, but can work, just not to half the potential that an FIC will.

you might wanna find out HOW the turbo was rebuilt and if it was re-balanced, what parts were used in the rebuild, etc.

still is a KILLER deal for all those parts, but may not be worth it if some questions are unanswered or you find out negative answers.

the mild steel IC pipes MAY cause issues in the future with rusting through, ingesting rust into the motor, etc. (never heard of problems though) might wanna find out what sized couplers are included so you don't have to buy more.

A/F gauge included in the kit is useless.

you wont need the fuel pump at such low boost either.

will need fuel lines/fittings for the FPR.. also will need to make an adapter for the rail, or tap it.

FPR gauge will be also needed if you plan on using the FPR.

you will get ALOT of parts for the money, but some are not needed at all, or necessary for a low low boost setup.

LSD.. you shouldn't bother unless you NEED one and race at the drag strip alot.. not worth the 1500$ or so itll cost to get the parts and get it installed.

after further reading your post, i see your throwing the turbo idea out the window anyway owned.gif but all my post still applies..

if your still considering it though.. i would suggest you DON'T CHEAP OUT on parts, and you plan on spending at LEAST 400$ more than you think your gonna spend to boost your car.. lots a tiny things you don't think about add up or things you will realize you want after boosting (catch cans, clutch, etc)
