K guys, in the market for a laptop, New or Used, but only want to spend about $500

Must haves:
Minimum, P4 / centrino / mobile or AMD equivalent
Legit / licensed copy of XP and CD (or cab files) which will not cause me "troubles" down the road, you all know what I mean,...
RAM: Minimum 512MB
HDD: Minimum 60GB
DVD reader / CDRW burner combo drive
NIC

Got any for sale or any leads?
I don't need the latest and greatest, but something that is RELIABLE! Also would prefer a local sale, but if you see one on Ebay or somewhere, Lemme know.
Looking to get one within 3-4 weeks.
Thanks

you're never going to find a laptop like that for 500 dude.

500 gets you like 1ghz of processor, maybe 512 ram, and say 40gb hard drive.
and that's even a pretty good deal.

laptops have really held their value, desktops on the other hand...for 500 you could get something pretty top of the line (unless you're into gaming then the prices get high)

I've just started building new laptops but no.. I really can't build anything for under 1200. but they are great laptops for 1200.

on the other hand you can get a cheap dell laptop for 500 plus shipping right now. it's a celeron 1.4 256mb and a 40 gb hdd. but it will be pretty crappy/heavy/plasticy (is that a word?).

I can get used stuff in p3 pretty easy but it will be about 400 for a p3 800, 128 mb memory and a 10 gb hdd though.

my suggestion is if you have to have a laptop save more. or just get a desktop now.

Ok, guess I should update this,....

Picked this gateway up last night:
http://www.gateway.com/home/products...t_mx6450.shtml

Anyone have problems with gateways? HDDs failing,.. screens,... etc.

Had this HP for about 5 days, then returned it:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/generic...=reg_R1002_CAEN

Liked alot of the features on it, but lot's of pet peeves that bugged me, like when I'm typing, the mouse pad was situated RIGHT below my right palm, and there was no button (or Function key) to turn it off, had to do it from the control panel... But most of the features I liked, such as the remote control.
But anyway, returned it last night and am currently playing around with this gateway. Good ol Best Buy 14 day return policies! fing02.gif

Anyway, so yeah, anyone have any experience with Gateway? Good / Bad?

So far I find that this 2.0ghz runs a bit warmer than the HP's 1.8ghz. that's one pet peeve I have already, but the power is nice, Another thing I don't like about the Gateway is the boot time,.... the HP booted up like nothing,... The gateway takes a bit longer,... minor,... but still..
Oh and the Stupid people software,... god, I spent some time nuking stuff....
THe HP was just turn it on,... and go wild from there,...
