Wtb 98 Tib Drivers Side Door Actuator.
Seems my advice was right, the actuator is indeed the culprit.
Walked around a junkyard for 2 hours no tibs...
Anyway, I phoned hyundai and they can get stuffed with their price.. does anyone have one of these they want to sell me?
Price with s&h inc please smile.gif

Never mind.
Theyre $8 shipped on ebay..
Man I thought they would be at least close to what hyundai wanted.. damn hyundai and their $70.

the ones on ebay arent the same shape at all, unless they are hyundai specific ones. that is, if you are talking about the door actuators and not the add on keyless entry actuators.
Hmm I think Im talking about the keyless entry one because the door still locked and unlocked manually after removing it.
It's white and is held in place by a thin silver metal strip with 2 screws and kinda looks like an olde bug sprayer.. it has a rubber boot near the end and shoots in and out when i set and deactivate the alarm.
It's one of these I need smile.gif

ok, just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting.
the actual actuators that control the pass-driver side locking and unlocking are really odd and dont look anything like the classic trigger actuators. they are stuffed down in the door as well.

Those gun-style actuators never last, no matter the brand. I just recently installed a new one on my driver's side door. I bought a 4 pack to last me a few years.
What stinks is that the factory door lock actuators on my tib are dead too, possibly from water getting in the doors, don't know. But now, locking unlocking the driver's side has no effect on the passenger door. I'm guessing it's only the driver's factory actuator that sends the signal to the passenger door to unlock, and that's what's dead, the passenger one is probably fine.
I'm going to take the easy way out and just install an aftermarket one on the passenger side as well. But unfortunately, that means manually unlocking the driver's door wil have no effect on the passenger side.

I dunno, the one in the car when I bought it looked the exact same but was black (my recent replacement was blue just by coincidince), and it was in there for 4 years? Maybe 5?
Well oddly I had to call a locksmith out around christmas when it snowed and he slimjim'd the drivers door open.
I'm guessing that when forced against their will these actuators shred the gears as it's *definitely* a gearing issue.
It's still functioning but it's making a horrid noise and when starting the car when the doors lock themselves it scares me half to death lmao laugh.gif

LOL, the loud noise of plastic gears grinding is what prompted me to replace mine ASAP. My alarm auto-locks the doors when I hit 2000 RPM, for a while I was driving as carefully as possible to avoid that while downtown. The actuator was so loud that I would get stares and even startled looks from pedestrians when it locked. tongue.gif I finally unplugged the relay to disable it until I could install a replacement.
Redz, I've used several name brands and generics over the years, and none have been especially reliable for me. The one that recently failed was DEI. My new one is by 12vp.com, and is supposed to be good. We shall see. The lifetime of the ones I just bought are 50,000 cycles. Many on ebay are only 20000-30000 cycles.
I wish now that I had purchased this one instead. "Consistently passes life operating cycle of over 100,000 times."
