Needed: Clutch Alignment Tool
anybody have a clutch alignment tool laying around that they could send me? I bought a ACT clutch but it didn't come with the alignment tool and i don't really feel like tearing everything apart and trying to rig it together. I tried to get one from autozone/orileys but they wouldn't help me. If anybody can help me out that would be awesome
I found mine. I knew I was forgetting something. When are you going to do the clutch? If its in the next few weeks or a month I can send it to you with that other stuff as long as you can stick it in an envelope back to me when youre done

Don't listen to Jon, go get one. My kit didn't have one in it and we spent 3 hours trying to get my tranny on (We = Role Reversal, done a tranny several times before). I called up an autozone and confirmed they had a clutch kit with a tool, drove over and gave them my ID card and rented the tool for the day. Took about an hour to get it all lined up and on with the tool. Took the tool back, got my ID, everything is good.

Don't listen to Redz. Unless you really feel like going out of your way, or paying for it. I've done it 4 times on the Tib, once on the Z, and none of my car friends use them either. I even have 3 of the tools and don't use them. The tool is only there to hold the clutch disc up while you torque down the cover. It's hardly an "alignment tool". It's a clumbsy and innacurate device that wobbles in the hole. Guess you'll see for yourself. I actually have a better experience eyeballing it than using the tool.
lol, you really dont need to buy one unless you really want to.
its not that hard to center the disk before you tighten the PP..
i remember when a friend of mine acted like it was SOO important and that if you aligned it wrong, you would be in some deep doo doo.. once i did the clutch for the first time, i was like RIGGGGHHTT.. lmao.gif

It's the same one as a Honda alignment tool if that helps you aquire one. If you could move the clutch disk with the full pressure of the PP applied to it by hand with the trans input shaft I don't see how the hell it could hold 150+hp going through it and being able to chirp 2nd and 3rd gear without slipping it's ass off.
Besides, it would be tricky holding it "eye balled" while you tightened the PP to secure the disc in place lol.

same as john I've done about 5 now. rd, gk, and cavalier. I only used the tool on the cavalier and it wasn't necessary. On the tib I just used a ratchet that I have that is round on the end. Just tighten down all the bolts on the pp (not torqued yet) and you'll still be able to wiggle it around a bit to align it. Then torque it down, thats it.
