turbo problems?
i was wondering a couple things about turbos. i know i could get that book but i dont have it yet and i want answers now laugh.gif if anyone knows the answer. my buddy says if i turbo my 01 tiburon then i'll have too much compression and it will eventually blow up in like a month. Is this true and if it is what do i do or get to fix that problem. I really need help, im looking at getting the extreme kit by this spring. thanx.
Well, your friend is somewhat right. Our motors run 10:1 compression right now, which is high if you plan to turbo. However, you can run the motor safly at 7 psi.
Tim from Speed-Factor has pushed his motor to 14 psi on stock internals (with proper tuning that is). I would not sugest this smile.gif
If you want to lower compression so you can run higher boost, you have 2 options. You can either get a new head gasket from kspec which will reduce compression to 8.5 or you can get new 8.5 dished pistons. The head gasket is easier, but the pistons is the better way to go imho.

No offence man, but with a Turbo, last thing you want to do is be impatient. You NEED that book, and you NEED to do some research my friend. If you don't, you WILL blow up your engine.

Well, if you don't turbo it CORRECTLY and lower your compression, or you run at a high boost on stock internals, yes, you will blow it. Simple answer. What you CAN do is build it CORRECTLY, lower your compression with new pistons or a compression gasket at www.kspec.com and have no problems at all. Then upgrade your internals as your desire for more boost catches on.
thanx for all the help. so what your saying is all i need to make it not blow up if tuned correctly and stuff is get the gasket. and yeah i know i cant rush things with turbos, im trying to learn all i can by spring. and i plan on getting the book soon but i dont have it now so thats why i was wondering.
too prevent detonation you will need to run colder plugs, run lower psi, higher octane fuel, and lower compression. However like said before with proper tuning our cars can push 250whp with stock internals. I dont recommend a compression reducing gasket. its a work around IMO and i dont like work arounds.

so your saying go with the pistons instead of the gasket? and doesnt the extreme kit come with colder plugs?
get pistons.. but if you are replacing the pistons you might as well replace the rods as well
