my 1997 beta x3 "project stinkbug"
My buddy (some may remember, Spikie) has one back home, same color, same engine - It's bloody quick! I bought him the GT front bumper for his birthday (with the integrated fog lamps and lip) and he has one of those giant hood intakes moulded, but otherwise it looks almost identical! He's got his lowered, and other suspension work... And he doesn't have a garrish $20 ricer bomb out back (sorry that drops a lot of appeal for me).
He autox's it too, and I see your pulleys are as close to the frame rail as his! He used urethane to strengthen the mounts so the engine barely moves, but it increased NVH quite a lot.

The car is significantly quicker than a stock 1.5 x3 but its still a slug compared to most the cars I get to autox. I wish there was a simpler/cheaper way of getting some more revs out of the beta. If I have some extra money lying around I might try some cheap 15x10s with 275/35/15 a6s to up my gearing. I'm not a fan of the exhaust either but it came on the car and it was almost brand new. For 1200 bucks I can't complain much. Looks like I might be keeping the car for this year so I have something to race when I'm not codriving the s2000 cr or 2011 wrx. I plan on doing mostly rallycross this year so I can up my game in something else. Glad to see everyone is liking the stinkbug i have some new pics of the engine since its been cleaned up a bit just need a laptop to upload off of.
