Default Re: Turbo Kits Back In Store

I bought an AEM intake while I was at "Hyundai Sunday meet" in Oakville,ON on Aug 22.

I got the intake used from Speedstate (they were there) for $200.
It was damaged a bit due to shipping, and I guess someone did'nt want it, so they sent it back to Speedstate.
So I bought it for $200 CAD.

Now, at the time I did'nt realize I had a Rev'A tiburon (or even knew what that meant).
So because of this, my Canister is located exactly where the cone filter was to sit (inside the wheel well).
I had already cut the guard in a half circle before I even saw the canister!
After this gruesome discovery, I decided on NOT removing the canister or bending it upward.
So I decided to cut the intake so I could fit it a different way.

behold, these pics:

Here is the fiter from underneath through the cut hole in the splash gaurd.

I know the filter does'nt look pretty, but I bought it all crunched up like that.

I saved $150 by doing so wink1.gif it still works great, and I feel a BIG difference in performance and sound.

I am getting "cooler" air from the bottom right side of the radiator, and from the hole in the wheel well.
The fiter sits at the very bottom of the Tranny now, and only have a total of 3 bends 'till the air gets to the TB.

When I cut the tube, I made sure NOT to deburr the outside, so the cone would not slip off after clamping.

Here are the remains:

This (besides the slightly crunched filter) is the only damage when I bought it.

So In affect I have a custom AEM intake. wink1.gif

This I hope give people something to look out for if one has a '97 tib, and is
looking into an AEM intake 8)

very cool.. when you take it out to paint, take some pics for the folks that have RevA tibs can see exactly what you did to the intake.

Good work around my friend.

I Would STILL deburr the CAI as you don't want that stuff breaking off and gettin in the engine.

my CAI does not have the bead around the end to hold the filter in place... over two years now and I have yet to loose it. Just make sure you tighten the sucker down good.. usually I use a quarter inch socket on the band clamp instead of a screwdriver..

Thanks Redz, means alot commin from you "mang", hehe
I see your concern about bits of aluminum getting in the engine.
I assure you I cleaned everything, and there are no more little bits of metal that can break off wink1.gif
Just a nice rough edge is left.

good job, but man, that filter is mashed up. also, it looks like its pretty snuggly contained, you think it will hit anything saay over big bumps or when you are accelerating hard?

revision A. no to familiar on the differences myself, but i know one came with a EVAP cannister to collect fuel vapors. only problem, it sits right where the aem filter does.

someone else will chime in with more detailed stuff.
