I look around and could not find anything on this subject.. I am just getting every thing lined-up.
the following will be new, Honed Cyl, new main and rods bearing, oil pump, pistons and rods, Valves/and gides.
What have you used and had success with..
thanks

Use regular motor oil for the first 3 changes. Do the first change after 500 miles.
After the 3 changes, then you can switch to synthetic (Mobil 1). It'll handle the heat better than regular oil.

Use semi-synth oil.
1000-1500 kms don't drive higher than 3000 RPM. And don't put too much load on engine (like going WOT at 2000 RPM...)
After that change oil.

use a basic 5w30. change the oil at 500, 1000 and some say also at 1500. I was always told 500, 1000, 2000. Be nice to it for a while then switch to synthetic of your choice. I like Amsoil 5w30 and have used it in my dsm project in the past and current run it in my Spec-v.
Also, like said above....invest in a magnetic plug.

how long does it generally take to break in a rebuild? i mean, how long do you need to drive it before you can start loading up the engine?
EDIT: also i heard that breaking in a turbo engine is different from N/A?

I heard that you just have to drive around like a grandma for a couple hundred miles. Not accelerating hard, putting the car under heavy load, going over 55mph, things like that. Def. use synthetic oil..but I think you know that already. tongue.gif

Basically a couple of dollars, a dyno and some running-in oil. Not kidding, some of the operators here DO know how to do an on-dyno break in. But though you should use running in oil; I get mine from Burson's. It takes about an hour running time. After that, swap the oil to what's been recommended or what you prefer.
