well, i have been having some problems with my beater.. damn serpentine belts keep snapping..
so i have HAD to drive the tiburon, which is in no condition to be driving.. for some reason, it has been running really lean and unresponsive lately, and its all at different times, so i havent been boosting at all, even though when im under boost, and my other injectors kick in its fine..
anyways, i was looking at my oil catch can yesterday, and it was lined with like a whitish gooey film.. is it coolant, or just air and PCV stuff mixing with oil??
i just ran a compression test a couple weeks ago and i hit 210 across all four cyl. perdy much. doesnt seem like i shoulda been able to blow a ring that fast, especially not running lean for long.. when i say lean, sometimes when im driving my wideband will creap up to 17.5-18.50:1 and sometimes when i am starting off from a light, it reads LEAN, and doesnt respond at certain throttle, and so forth.. anyone have any ideas?!?! i really need to get this into the shop, but with the Grand AM down, i have no other option..

The motor is fuxored if there's white goo in the oil.
210 is too high. you got a wrong reading.

Don't worry about the film in the catch can, as long as it's not in your oil itself, what happens is after you turn your car off the catch can is hot and it draws in moisture and the water biulds up inside of it, as long as you don't see any film on your dipstick your OK. As far as your compression 210 does seem a little high, What pistons are you running, i'm using 8.5:1 and i'm getting about 180 from mine.

im still at stock compression..so 10.3:1 thats why im not boosting over 8psi, and rarely boosting at all. i have some 8.5:1 to put it, i just need to wait on tax returns and such. wouldnt be driving the tib, but my grand am keeps eating my belts.. POS american crap..
no film on the dipstick.. which is good..

The minimum stock compression test is rated at 200 psi. Of course if you have lower compression pistons you will have a lower number. But 210 is perfectly fine. Do you have the little air/water separator as a catch can? I know I had slightly white oil in there at first, but that was just from the little white filter. wink1.gif

SWEETNESS. i was freaking out cuz its been running really lean under certain throttle positions lately. thought i blew a ring, and coolant was getting above the head into the catch can... now i gotta figure out this lean throttle problem.. i think my MAF is going down the pooper.. its super irradic under higher rpms and load.. jumps all around the map..
