the wastegate controls the psi by opening a valve and diverting some of the excess exhaust gases around the turbine. the valve is held down by a spring controled by an actuator. once the pressur rises, the actuator opens the spring allowing some exhaust gas through it.

38mm is the size of the opening on the wastegate.

You can use Different sized springs for the wasteagte to achieve different boost levels. When ordering a Tial you usually get a choise of spring pressures aka boost pressure

You need to buy the biggest spring that represents the lowest amount of boost you're going to run. Then use a boost controller to raise it slightly.

For instance, if I wanted to run 11psi using a Turbonetics Deltagate, then I would buy their 9lb spring, then shim it up a little til it hits 11psi. The deltagate is better than the tial for varying boost because you can turn a screw and it'll compress the spring in a range of about 10lbs above the installed spring. With a Tial, you'll need to have a boost controller. I like the Deltagate better, but the Tial looks a lot better (polished).

I have both and will be selling a Deltagate soon.
