Hopefully you've found out that oil filters sometimes arent that great. And since most of you are feeding the turbo from the head or somewhere at the END of the oil system, the best thing to do to save your turbo is to give it its own filter. Remember, the oil filter is at the beginning of the system, but its possible for materials to come from the motor itself. So how do you filter that before it hits the turbo?
Here you go. An Inline oil filter. (not to be confused with an inline fuel filter)

May have been. It's possible that when the bearing spun, shrapnel bypassed the main filter and ruined the turbo bearings. An inline filter before the turbo might have helped it.
Since I just dropped $800 on a new turbo, I'm gonna make sure I filter the thing well.

well it was probably shrapnel from the bearings that were seeing low oil pressure... that would certainly explain it....
which is why i told you to pull ALL bearings and inspect them before u start that motor again

It doesnt matter, the damage was done anyways. Once I heard the rod knocking, it was already throwing around material for a hundred miles.
I bought the filter locally just now for $32, and should be here in 3 days.

Just inspect it every oil change and clean it out if needed. Unless it's clogged, it won't affect the pressure.

Yes those have been around for years. they are mostly used on ball bearing turbos that require extremely clean oil or you will pit the races of the bearings. Bronze bearings found in most turbos wont need these as there are many other points along the way that will get cloged before the turbo will you will notice those first. Even if you do have shapnal floating around in the engine its not likely to get pushed back in to the system against the oil pressure port then go through the entire system to the turbo before you even know it. I guess for 30$ its not to bad just keep your oil cleen and you shouldnt have a problem.
