UFB's Turbo and Pistons with the 1.8L
Red, Random, UFB, Cheuk, or whoever,
Will the lower compression pistons with the HP Turbo kit fit in the 1.8L engine?
4DoorGL didn't think so, but on hmaservice, they have the bore for both engines listed as the same, only the stroke was different. So it looks like it'll fit, right?? Or will the shorter stroke really screw up the compression ratio? Haven't worked the numbers yet, so I'm not sure.
Also, other than less power, will there be any real differences I should worry about slapping this thing on a 1.8? I think the crank, rods, and head should be of similar quality (strength-wise).
Thanks in advance,
ac

The pistons from the 2.0L and 1.8L share the same part number (I'm talking HMA stock equipment) so they *should* work. Since the cylinder head is the exact same between the two engines, the static compression would still be the same as UFB is quoting.
HOWEVER...
Because we have no conclusive testing done on the 1.8L engine, there's no telling about the crank. Gut instinct says it will not be a problem, but there's no guarantees.

That's what I figured.
Red, if I buy that 2.0L from you, we have a 1.8L Elantra here we're turboing. I can open up both engines and see what differences we have between them.

Thanks guys. I won't be ready to buy until late spring anyway, and will use the interim to get some tools together that I'll need. I already have a good set of wrenches, ratchets, pliers, and a big-ass rubber mallet.
Any idea what specialty tools I'll need, specifically for the head removal and piston removal? Also what about testing equipment? It sounds like there's a pretty comprehensive list with the instructions, any way to get that posted? I'll ask over on HP as well.
Thanks again,
AC

For reference purposes, I get a compression ratio of 7.9:1 for the 1.8L Beta running your low compression pistons.
This assumes that the head volume and bore are the same for both engines and that the stroke and stock CR are accurate.
Another option is getting a 2.0L crank and conrods, but that's probably expensive.

Yes it will affect the tuning considerably! The tuning is done with a combustion chamber with a certain volume in CC's and running a certain compression ratio - i'm not sure how the engine will run, but I know that we will not allow incorrect tuning to be released from the warehouse.
What car is this 1.8L engine in?? We don't have the 1.8L Tiburon is S.A, but let me know anyway as if it is a Tiburon the piping etc will be identical and we will simply need to tune an engine map for you to be able to provide these kits for the 1.8L Tiburons aswell.
