hello everyone...

im looking to try and turbo a stock 3.3 sonata is it possible? can the tranny handle it? any ideas welcome plz

What year? What size turbo? Automatic? What supporting mods?



You can turbo anything.

You could do it, but it's pushing sh*t uphill man. It'd be an easy 5+++ grand getting this off the ground, and months or years of troubleshooting, for what? An obscure 14 second fwd sedan.





-Where are you going to get the manifolds?

-What about fitting wastegates?

-Where are you going to plumb one turbo or fit two turbos?

-Anyone aware of available parts for upgrading the fuel system on an 07 sonata?

-Sorting out engine management would be expensive, difficult, and custom, plus it'd take lots of money for people to take you seriously

-The transmission will sh*t a brick

etc





Sell the sonata and buy something else if you want to go fast

Yes, you can. If you have an automatic, I wouldn't use it. If all you want is a little more power, then a very simple turbo system could cost you just under $2k. You could use the factory manifolds. I hope you REALLY love this Sonata, cause you would be committing to a long and costly investment.

im not looking for massive power. just like 5 pounds boost i dont want to kill the car. the car is pretty peppy as it is but the thought of a turbo 3.3 engine i think would be cool. its a 53 mm turbo. i thought about a remote mount for it near underneath the trunk. the only things iv done to the car is exhaust and intake. but if i do manage this what about the tranny? can it handle it? am i gonna hurt the engine

im not to familer with anything turbo. i know how they work and sht but never actualy had one.

Go look at Mahonroy's thread he just posted and make your kit as simple as that.

As for the auto i got 2 years running 9.5 psi out of my lantra auto now it's been rebuilt with a shift kit, a more stall torque converter and a decent trans cooler so hopefully that will do but a decent tranny cooler would be a must.
