Turbo pistons, rods and cams
1. I need to know what cams will work for a turbo charged 2001 tiburon. duration lift etc.
2. I can't find rods currently for this motor. What are the specs, so I could have a set custom made, or does any companies make them except KORE(they seem to be having issues currently).
3. Forged 8.5 to 1 pistons. who has the best prices, does JE make a set?
I have found CNK, k-spec.
The car is using a alpine turbo kit, also why does it seem that the alpine is kind of disregared on this forum. Is it because of the small turbo. Everything else seems top notch even thought the UNIchip can pose a threat to tune if you don't have the stuff to do it.

Why would you say that?? If you use the search function you will find alot of info on the Alpine turbo setup and related upgrading issues. There is also a specific Alpine Developments forum here as well.

To my knowledge unless you are going over 250 WHP the stock rods should hold up fine. There is tons of good info here just do a search and you will find lots of info you are looking for! wink
1. You shouldn't need a cam unless you are going for extreme options... 300+ WHP
2. Crower makes rods for the Beta
3. FORGED pistons Wiesco for non stock rods. HKS for stock rods. I believe JE has a set in their computer but the Koreans don't use them... some questions about fitment.
The Alpine is not bad for a basic system but it needs pistons and better tunability.

So the Crower Wiesco combination works good. I will have to call wiesco. Crower doesn't have a set listed in there master catalog, probably custom made to size $750 list price. I will also call eagle, I have had great luck with there rods.

Eagle will not make you any unless you order 16 sets (yes, that is 64 total rods). Crower does have our rod on-file, but doesn't list them as a common part. You must pay the "special order" part price but they crank it out pretty fast because their forging/CNC/whatever equipment already has our rod specs.
ROSS racing also makes a set of forged pistons for the BETA motor as well.

Cheuk, FYI, wiesco is selling us 8.7:1 low silicon forged pistons with .003 piston to wall clearence. As a common part for the US. any other sizes is special order.
whats your experience with the Wiesco pistons and cold start knocking. I am hoing this is not much of a proably with relatively smaller p/w
And do you guys keep the wiesco provided rings, or tend to put others on?
I think wiesco is selling the piston and ring $102 USD each.
I did not think the cold start knocking was bad... but I am alot more tolerant of little PITA things than most people. It's one of the prices you pay for big horsepower... just like leaving the engine running to cool the turbo after a hard run.
Most of the guys run the Wiesco provided rings.
That is a good price on the pistons and rings.... I think the supplier here sells them for $800... more during the racing season smile.gif

Rusher, unless you are going to be putting a lot of power through you're motor, you don't need cams. HOWEVER if you want to get some, Tigerlily (who sells through kspec) offers turbo tuned hollow camshafts. I'm not sure of the specs on them and they're expensive as hell. Around the $1100-$1400 range. You will probably get what you pay for but something like these are probably more for higher reving motors though. They seem very quality. You'll have to contact Kspec for details and prices as they do not show them on their site anymore BUT THEY DO STILL OFFER THEM!!! They are what I'm planning on putting in my car BUT I am also going to aim for about 550whp with an 8000+rpm redline. If you're running high boost, they are tuned to get rid of valve overlap to reduce boost blow through. I hope this helps.
Rods- If you are patient, CNK is working on rods right now that Chris says will handle in the neighborhood of 550whp. Don't quote me on that.
Pistons- I have a good feeling that CNK will also be developing some nice forged pistons here. This is just a feeling and I haven't heard anything for sure from chris but if he sees that the demand is there then there's more of a chance he will make some pistons!

ROSS is charging $350 per set, including rings, pistons and pins last I checked. Price may have increased since my order from last year though wink
Crower rods are rated for 600 pounds of torque at 8000RPMs, which if you do your math comes out to around 918 horsepower -- for $675 a set, you'll NEVER break one.
Just as an observation: ross piston + crower rod weighs in at 1030 grams. Stock piston + stock rod = 980 grams... Another 200 grams of total reciprocating weight in trade for another 500 horsepower of capacity handling smile.gif
Piston to wall clearance on the Ross pistons is determined by expected power output. The numbers I was telling to Darius over the phone suggested a 0.005 clearance; if you're aiming for 300-350, the clearance will be at 0.003 like you're expecting.
