Ok, i searched for a bit, ill admit not too too much, but couldnt find my exact answer. Ive asked a few people about running a muffler on a turbod tib, response has been negative. Im waitin on my extreme speed factor kit for the tib and i want to run an actual muffler with just a tip. Im tired of my ricey zoom tube, and think i could get a cooler quiter sound out of an actual muffler. Would that be too restrictive on my turbod motor and make too much back pressure? I know its going to get quieter with the turbo and bigger piping but i still think the muffler might make it sound too ricey, can i run a preformance MUFFLER on the turbod tib?

Default Turbo Exhaust Question

I'm not sure, but I'm faily certain you can... just find a non restrictive one. Also, you could merely find a "zoom tube" that doesn't sounds ricey, like that MBRP pipe that sounds so nice. (hard to find now though) Again, fairly certain you can run a pipe with a muffler, as long as it's not super restrictive.

Thanks, hopefully some more will input, i know you gotta be able to though. An evo runs like 19 psi...and its got muffler out of the factory doesnt it. ANy stock turbod car can run one, dont see why a pretty high flowing performance muffler wouldnt work. Im looking at like a good flowmaster, hooker, etc and a cool tip, anyways more advice would be awesome.

I would say to wait till after you put your turbo in, I have the MBRP exhaust and it use to be very loud with my header but after I put my turbo in the exhaust is now quiet for some reason, I guess the turbo itself acts like a muffler.

I read somewhere that a turbo acts like a 1/3 of a muffler as far as noise goes. I do have a high flow muffler on my turbo setup and was considering adding a resonator to quiet it down a little more. I would rather listen to the BOV and turbo than a brappy exhaust. smile.gif

A turbo does quiet the exhaust down some. Its going to cut probably 30% of the noise you had before. Running without a muffler would probably make it sound even worse...

the Evo mufflers enter the side of the muffler about 3in I tried to get under there so maybe 2.5in you would probably want a muffler with the entrance form the back
